Iconic K-Pop Covers

Nothing is more fun than sitting down to watch various K-Pop performances, as the visuals and unique stages will have you back watching again and again. One trend that is always a treasure to watch is when a K-Pop group covers another group. Not only is it fun to see your groups perform something new, but it is the perfect chance to learn about other K-Pop songs you might not have listened to before. For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we will be taking a glimpse at various outstanding cover performances!

PENTAGON - “Candy”

PENTAGON is as sweet as they can get in their fun rendition of H.O.T’s “Candy.” The members bring so much happiness and joy to this performance. The stage bounces off this bright energy, as it is full of bright colors, and of course, the giant gloves that are an iconic point for any “Candy” performance.

Red Velvet - “Gee”

Red Velvet brings an adorable rendition of “Gee” by their older sister group, Girls’ Generation. They stick to their natural personalities, keeping it cute but not overly sweet while performing this upbeat song. Their outfits are pretty simple, consisting of white tops and dark skinny jeans with heels, playing at the similar style seen in the “Gee” music video. The members' voices perfectly match this song and drive the idea that no one covers SM Entertainment groups like other SM groups.

AKMU - “Eyes, Nose, Lips”

This brother-sister duo is no joke when it comes to vocals, making their performance of “Eyes, Nose, Lips,” the gorgeous ballad by Taeyang, to be unforgettable. AKMU gives the listener’s an addictive acoustic version of this song. The clearness of Suhyun’s voice and the calmness of Chanhyuk’s voice are a thing of beauty. When their two voices come together in harmony, it will leave you refreshed.

Dreamcatcher - “BANG BANG BANG”

Dreamcatcher adds their own swag to their cover of BIGBANG’s popular song “BANG BANG BANG”. It begins with them adding their own lyrics to the introduction of the song before showing their charisma and coolness in their cover. There’s an added fun touch near the end of the song when they even change the lyrics to be focused more on the ladies being in charge rather than men, adding more to their cool charm.

MONSTA X - “Mirotic”

TVXQ’s “Mirotic” was covered by MONSTA X in 2016. The members were not afraid to embrace the spice that is an integral part of this song. Their vocals and harmonies are so smooth and pair flawlessly for this sensual song, particularly JOOHONEY and I.M’s rap verse as they keep true to their own style while complementing the sound of TVXQ. Their crisp choreography and black suits are the cherries on top of their performance.

These are just a taste of some of the amazing K-Pop covers that are out there. What’s one of your favorite cover performances?
