Interesting Dramas Starting in August

It’s the last full month of summer, but that doesn’t mean new dramas are showing any signs of cooling off. There is something for everyone with a variety of crime, romantic comedies, and historical dramas. Check out these new dramas starting in August, and let us know which one you’re looking forward to seeing. 

Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist

Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist follows talented physician Yoo Sepoong (Kim Minjae). He works at the royal palace until he gets caught up in a conspiracy against the royal family. He is banished to a remote village where he has to find work to make a living.

He restarts his life in the village and helps someone who is having a medical emergency. This catches the eye of Gye Jihan (Kim Sankyung), the local doctor. Jihan doesn’t know of Sepoong’s previous life but thinks he could help him become a great doctor. While Sepoong works with Jihan, he meets Seo Eunwoo (Kim Hyanggi), a young widow who was once in a noble family. She develops feelings for Sepoong but is told she has to remain faithful to her dead husband. How will Sepoong create a new life in this place? This historical drama is available to watch on Viki.

A Model Family

Dongha (Jung Woo) is considered the family’s breadwinner, but he’s actually going through financial problems. His wife, Eunjoo (Yoo Jinseo), is ready to divorce him. She has grown to despise her husband and has a secret that she needs to keep. Before Dongha hits rock bottom, he finds a suspicious car with a tremendous amount of money. Even though he suspects the vehicle was involved in a crime, he takes the money. Soon Dongha has attracted the attention of Gwangcheol (Park Heesoon), the number two man in a vast drug ring. He wants to know how Dongha came into possession of money he believes is his. To make matters worse, anti-drug detective Joohyeon (Park Jiyeon) also starts taking an interest in Dongha. A Model Family will air on Netflix.

If You Wish Upon Me

Ji Changwook stars as Yoon Gyeoree, a man who has been down in luck for his whole life. He grew up in an orphanage after being removed from his home for abuse. Due to his harsh upbringing, he became a delinquent and ended up spending time in prison. However, things finally began to change when he was ordered to do community service at an end-of-life facility. He meets Kang Taesik (Sung Dongil), the volunteer team leader at the facility. The team does whatever they can to grant patients their last wishes. Will Gyeoree finally begin to change his ways, or will it be too late for him? If You Wish Upon Me will be available to watch on Viki.

Good Job

Good Job follows Eun Sunwoo (Jung Ilwoo), who leads a double life. He is the chairman of the Eunkang group and runs a detective agency. When he’s working as a detective, he’s kindhearted and helpful. However, when he’s working at Eunkang, he’s the opposite. One day he meets Don Sera (Girls’ Generation member Kwon Yuri), a girl with special powers. She hides her abilities but still tries to help people when she can. Sunwoo and Sera become involved in a case, and feelings begin to bloom. This crime drama will be available on Viki.

Hunted

Youngsoo (Park Hosan) is happily married to Chaejung (Kim Soojin). They have a son and live happily in a countryside village. One day, Youngsoo goes boar hunting in the mountains behind his village. While there, his son goes missing, which sparks an investigation. Chaejung becomes emotionally unstable and begins to suspect everyone. One villager, Oksoon (Ye Soojung), suspects that someone close to her started a fire that killed her son and daughter-in-law. You’ll have to tune in to find out more about Hunted.

Little Women

Three sisters, Oh Injoo (Kim Goeun), Oh Inkyung (Nam Jihyun), and Oh Inhye (Park Jihu), grew up in poverty and have formed a close bond. They do whatever they need to protect themselves and each other. The sisters become involved in a case against the most influential families in South Korea and will use their skills to fight against injustice.

Inkyung is a news reporter and begins to dig into the case she covered when she was a rookie. Injoo helps her search for clues, which is how the two begin to attract the wrong attention. Inhye, the youngest sister, wants to pursue painting. She has a natural talent and wants to attend a prestigious art high school. Will the case interfere with her dreams?
