Super Junior and Reik’s “One More Time” Makes us Want to Dance

Take a break from studying and listen to Super Junior’s newest mini-album to get some Latin vibes in your day. The album was released October 8 with two new songs, a cover, and a remix of the previous title featuring Leslie Grace, “Lo Siento.” The title track on this mini-album is the song “One More Time.” This comeback marks the return of Ryeowook after his military service.

Super Junior has not moved on from the Latin pop-inspired tunes with Spanish guitar and collaborations as they continue to drop releases this year. This time around they have collaborated with Reik, a Mexican band.

As expected, the song starts fairly slow with guitar before some bass starts and the pace picks up a bit. As soon as one gets the feel for the beat, the song makes you immediately want to dance. It has a catchy chorus that is sung in Korean, Spanish, and some English, making this a hit for the international audience. It is clear that Super Junior has stepped up from “Lo Siento” and into something with a stronger Latin pop sound.

The lyrics for “One More Time” are about wanting to make someone fall in love with you and sensing the other person’s feelings.

The music video starts by showing the members of Super Junior and Reik walking into what looks like a hotel. Further on, they give the viewer stunning visuals, lighting, and focus on performance in the video. It features a dance break right before the bridge of the song, sung by Shindong, Ryeowook, and Eunhyuk, which moves on to a vocal performance by Reik, backed by Yesung and Ryeowook.

The second track on the album is an all-Korean version of “One More Time” by only Super Junior. The third track is the pre-released song “Animals,” which is also Latin pop-inspired. This song also got an illustrated music video, featuring the members as personified animals. The fourth song on the mini-album is a modernized cover of a Mexican song from the ‘80s titled “Ahora Te Puedes Marchar,” originally performed by Luis Miguel. Super Junior surprises fans by singing it in all Spanish with no translations to Korean or English. The final track on the album is a remix of “Lo Siento.”

There is no denying that Super Junior has seen the possibility to make cross-cultural music a huge success after “Lo Siento,” and it does not seem to be stopping any time soon. This album features Latin pop-inspired songs with Korean lyrics throughout, as well as one that is in Spanish only. Only time will tell if this is a trend or if Super Junior will continue with this sound in future releases.
