Colde Delivers a New Poem

Only two months after his last album, songwriter and producer COLDE is back with a new digital release. The album, aptly titled Poem, consists of only two tracks: “Wall” and “Poem (Shhh),” both of which showcase the artist’s trademark relaxed, minimalistic style that fans are sure to love.

“Wall,” with its simple instrumentation featuring a soft electric guitar, sings of wanting to overcome obstacles to live one’s life while simultaneously feeling trapped. Melancholic from start to end, the song builds about halfway through with the introduction of some light percussion before crescendoing into the final chorus. It’s a track laced with a sadness and vulnerability that anyone can relate to that also serves as a perfect lead into the second song and title track, “Poem (Shhh).”

Whereas “Wall” is slow and sorrowful, “Poem (Shhh)” is upbeat and groovy while still maintaining Colde’s signature acoustic vibes. The song almost has a bossa nova feel to it, with rhythmic electric guitar overlaying percussion ranging from woodblocks to bongo drums. Compared to the lyrics of the preceding track, “Poem (Shhh)” is much more hopeful, with Colde singing of how he will leave a mark, whether it be in history or just on one person, with his words. Always a master of wordplay, the title itself is a pun: the Korean word for “poem” is “시” which is pronounced much like “shhh.” Considering that much of Colde’s discography—whether it be in his solo releases or his work as part of offonoff or Club Eskimo—consists of songs loaded with darker themes masked by subdued instrumentation, the title is more than fitting for the song and artist.

While neither track has an official music video, Colde did perform “Poem (Shhh)” for COLORSXSTUDIOS on YouTube and the performance is nothing short of pure art, much like everything else you’d come to expect from the singer/songwriter. Check it out here:
