Can you hear that? It’s the sound of one of K-Pop’s most underrated boy groups that needs your attention… a voice to the new world, VICTON!

VICTON is Plan A Entertainment’s boy group that debuted on November 9, 2016 with the single “I’m Fine.” Their name, VICTON , is a shortened form of “Voice to New World,” meaning that they aspire to be K-Pop’s representative voice.

The group has seven members: Seungwoo, Byungchan, Sejun, Chan, Seungsik, Hanse, and Subin. The group is also related to a few familiar, familial K-Pop idols; member Chan’s brother is Heojun of Madtown and Seungwoo’s sister is actress/artist Han Sunhwa formerly from the girl group SECRET. VICTON is also known as the “brother group” to popular girl group Apink.

To stir up excitement prior to their debut, VICTON had their own reality television show called Me & 7 Men which depicted their lives as trainees preparing for their official debut. Since then, the group has released four mini-albums including their last comeback “Remember Me” in November. With progressively stronger comebacks as well as a cohesive sound and style, VICTON is a group you shouldn’t be sleeping on. Keep reading to find out why.

“I’m Fine”

“I’m Fine” is a debut done right. The music video is aesthetically pleasing with pastel colors, cool clothes, and modern sets. Throughout the video, the members bowl and slip on banana peels as they try to impress Apink’s Son Naeun. Despite its jolly concept and pretty music video, the lyrics of “I’m Fine” are surprisingly dark. The song deals with the idea of being frustrated with your partner in a relationship to the point where you feel like you’re pretending to still care. Even with the song’s lyrics, “I’m Fine” still feels like a fun, uplifting pop song, mostly because of its energetic and addicting chorus. It’s a track that immediately claims the listener’s attention and makes them want to know more about who VICTON really is.

“Eyez Eyez”

VICTON’s darker side emerges with their second mini-album Ready and its single “Eyez Eyez,” a comeback that set the group on the track to mainstream popularity. Upon release, Ready quickly took 6th place on the Gaon Album Charts, and it’s easy to see why with a song as addicting as “Eyez Eyez.” The group’s first taste at a darker concept, “Eyez Eyez” can be easily remembered for its electronic bridge that swells into an explosive chorus and for its heavy use of English lyrics, which aren’t typically heard in a VICTON comeback. VICTON’s tracks are always fascinating to listen to because there’s such an easy progression between each segment; their songs never feel jarring when they switch from singing to rapping or vice versa. Instead, the members’ voices blend well together into a strong, cohesive jam of a song that the listener can leave on repeat. “Eyez Eyez” is one of those VICTON magic moments in action.

“Remember Me”

The group’s most recent comeback, “Remember Me,” is VICTON’s first dip into the songwriting process. Member Hanse contributed lyrics to every song on the six-track EP including “Remember Me.” The song is produced by the Good Life team, which includes Kim Taeju and Yong Junhyung of HIGHLIGHT. The members of VICTON are known to be huge fans of groups including BTS, BIGBANG, and HIGHLIGHT, so working with Junhyung must’ve been a momentous occasion for them! Moombahton reggae and dancehall mix together with the song’s lyrics into a powerful yet sorrowful dance track. The song is all about wishing that a person who’s left the protagonist’s life will always remember them. “Remember Me” is the vocal line’s playground and really shows off each of the member’s different strengths and ranges. Part of the song’s choreography also features the members dancing in water, which is a real sight to behold. “Remember Me” leaves a lasting memory on the listener, and cements VICTON as a group that can’t be forgotten.

This past weekend, the group also began their “Busking Project,” where they perform for three weeks at different locations in Seoul for fans and also broadcast it live via V APP.
