February Favorites

While February is the shortest month of the year, it did not fail to bring a variety of new releases suited to everyone’s tastes. While admittedly very difficult to pick just one for each category this month, that just goes to show how great the month really was.

Music

Favorite Song

People are still sleeping on VROMANCE and it is so upsetting. They dropped a single titled “Star” on February 21 as part of their “Confession Trilogy.” This song is simple musically, just a steady beat that leads the chill-inducing vocals along beautifully. The chord progression and vocal prowess of these four men will leave you awestruck. The music video is also worth watching, as it shows a gorgeous modern dance between a couple.

I have many honorable mentions, those of which will take up places in the other categories, but one specifically for favorite song is Roy Kims latest balled “Only Then.” I can listen to this acoustic guitar driven track on loop for days. The slight ‘90s nostalgic sound in the chorus laced between Roy Kim’s soulful voice is exactly what I needed this month.

Favorite Album

While CLC’s newest title “Black Dress” is an undeniable bop, it isn’t what made their album my favorite—although it definitely contributed. With only five songs, this mini-album perfectly shows off the diversity this group has to offer. Must-listen-to tracks include “선 (Distance)” and the lovely and unique “일곱 번째 (7th).” All-in-all, there’s something in this album for everyone, and it makes me excited to see how this promising group grows in the future.

Favorite Music Video

I won’t lie, I had NCT U’s “BOSS” in here at first, but changed it last minute to Ten and Taeyong’s hypnotizing “Baby Don’t Stop.” Out of all the NCT groups, NCT U was always my favorite, but it seemed we had to wait and wait for their comeback. First off, Ten’s hair color, style, clothes, and movements are so uncannily similar to TAEMIN in “MOVE” that I became immediately entranced (because “MOVE” era is out of this world). The song is sexy with the whispering in the chorus, hot with the smooth rap verses, catchy with the addicting beat—if you haven’t seen this video yet then please watch it. The choreography will take your breath away; the duo makes everything look so seamless and easy. There may be no story to this video, but the aesthetics and dancing are just so satisfying.

Favorite Music Show Performance

Time for the MVP of all categories this month. If I were able to pick the same favorite for each category it would easily be flooded with Red Velvet’s “Bad Boy.” I don’t know what to tell you—the music video, the song itself, the choreography—all of it had me so hooked that I swear it was the only song I religiously listened to these past 28 days. I decided to put them under music show performance simply so I can grace you all with the gorgeous visuals and the dance that I and others are obsessed with.

Shoutout goes to MOMOLAND’s “Bboom Bboom” performances. That song somehow remains to be addictive to the ear, and Jooe’s bright personality and energy never fail to amaze all of us.

Entertainment

Favorite Drama

With not many stand-out dramas being released this month, I find that I have not been as tuned in to what’s currently airing. One drama that I did get myself to begin (mostly because I love the actress) is Radio Romance. Kim Sohyun is a young actress I have loved since her earlier days, and her performance so far does not disappoint. You’ll be especially interested if you are a fan of HIGHLIGHT, as leader Doojoon is the male lead. While nothing particularly special, (or Goblin-level life changing), it’s the kind of sweet and easy-to-watch romance that could be exactly what you are looking for.

Beauty

Skincare

I do not have a pick for makeup because I have not gotten any new Korean beauty products this month. However, while not new, there is a toner that I have been trying out for over a month now from Klairs. “The Supple Preparation Facial Toner” contains ingredients that balance one’s pH levels—an essential function of any good toner—and provides deep hydration. While winter may be slowly but surely coming to a close, this toner has been great for supplying my skin with the moisture it has lost these past few months.
