The Super Duper Super Junior

Super Junior is back with the bold, exciting single “Super Duper” as part of SM Station—just before the release of the repackage of their eighth album, REPLAY, next month.

Released on March 23, “Super Duper” marks the 50th single from SM Entertainment’s SM Station project. Dedicated ELFs, fans of Super Junior, will likely already have heard this track before; it was first unveiled during the group’s Super Show 7 world tour in Seoul from December 15 to 17. The performance of the song each night received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from everyone in attendance because of its bombastic chorus and exciting rhythm.

It’s easy to see why everyone loved “Super Duper” after the first listen: it’s a shockingly simple song but it’s perfect for performing live. The song was written and composed by the group’s leader Leeteuk, and the song’s lyrics are very cheesy, charming, and unabashedly weird—the lyrics even make reference to Super Junior’s past comeback “Mister Simple!” A huge portion of the song is in English too, which will help international fans to be able to sing along too when Super Junior holds worldwide concerts.

The chorus of “Super Duper” is incredibly easy to pick up during the first chorus so that listeners can start chanting it along with the members when it comes back around. “Super Duper” also has this high-energy EDM backbeat that just makes people want to dance and go crazy. It’s a song that makes the listener wish they could see it performed live at a Super Junior concert because it would be pure, energetic chaos for a solid three minutes. Super Junior is known for being a silly, unconventional group full of hilarious personalities; they’ve taken on a variety of genres over their nearly 13-year career and have pulled off another great song with “Super Duper.”

The music video for “Super Duper” is just as quirky as the song. Instead of a live performance of the track, the video is entirely animated and features the members dancing alongside gummy bears, rainbow flowers, and ice cream. Super Junior is only just getting started this year and will be releasing a repackaged version of their eighth album, PLAY, on April 12.
