Throwback Thursday: Idols in Commercials Part 1
Last week, we featured a few summer-themed commercials featuring K-Pop idols. For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we decided to feature more commercials featuring idols. From food and makeup to clothing and even cellphones, idols can be seen through various commercials that make you wish that this product was being sold in your country (if you don’t live in South Korea, that is). Check out some of these commercials featuring K-Pop idols!
BTS & Jessi
Who would have thought that two worlds would collide and that we’d see Jessi and BTS collaborate? (Especially in a commercial together.) BTS and Jessi come together to advertise SK telecom’s (a phone service provider in South Korea) data coupons, and they do it in the the form of a dance and rap battle. While this is only a commercial, you can’t help but wish this was a full song thanks to its catchy beat and lyrics (regardless if it’s all about what the product offers). As we have South Korea’s hottest boy group and hottest female soloist in this particular commercial, maybe someday we will be able to see a collaboration track between Jessi and BTS that is not merely just for a commercial, but rather an official release.
EXO
Taking it all the way back to when the group consisted of 12 members, EXO featured in a commercial for the brand Kolon Sport, where they also featured their song, “XOXO.” The commercial featured the group also having a dance battle against each other while trying to impress the main actress of the commercial. As “XOXO” is known for being a cute, endearing song, you can’t help but smile as you see the members perform the choreography for the song and try to convince the lead actress to choose between members. While the commercial is supposed to feature the shoes and clothes from the brand itself, you can’t help but get caught up in the visuals and song of it all. If you were put in the lead actress’ shoes, which member would you choose?
APINK & Lee Gookju
Closing out this week’s round of throwbacks is Apink and Lee Gookju, coming together for their commercials for G9. They did several commercials, including a music video featuring the idol girl group and the comedian performing Apink’s smash-hit “Mr. Chu.” G9 is a South Korean online store, similar to Amazon. The commercial will surely bring a smile to your face as you witness the Apink members try hard not to laugh thanks to the funny antics of Lee Gookju. While this commercial doesn’t give big insight as to what G9 really has to offer, you still can’t help but watch the commercial play out and be curious to know more about the online shop.
