GOT7 Kicks Off Second North American Tour in Toronto

GOT7 kicked off their second world tour Eyes On You this summer, a couple years after their first Fly world tour. The highly popular group is set to hit numerous cities in Asia, North and South America, and even Europe. The North American leg of the tour kicked off on July 3 with their sole Canadian stop on the tour—Toronto. The concert began at 8 p.m. and lasted a full three hours.

The boys wasted no time in getting the party going, starting off with Flight Log: Turbulence title track “Hard Carry” and moving immediately onto “Skyway,” finishing off the beginning set with intense Flight Log: Arrival track “Out.” A quick introduction and a moment to catch their breaths followed before the boys moved from the main stage to the thrust stage for their performances of “My Home” and “Paradise.”

“Prove It” and “Hey” switched between the main and thrust stages before the boys performed “Firework,” the first song off of 7 for 7 and separate from the Flight Log series. More time was spent on the extended stage with the striking performance of “Look” and “Beggin’ On My Knees.” The members quickly sprinted back to the main stage to perform “Teenager” and “우리,” returning only to the thrust stage to perform fan favorite “Stop Stop It.” The first portion of the set ended with a remix of “Girls Girls Girls” featuring a new dance break.

The second part of the show was a little different, revolving around an animated drama, an idea that was apparently brought into fruition by member Jinyoung, as was later revealed during their ment. In between scenes of the drama, the boys performed new songs including “If You Do” and “Face” before concluding this portion of the show with “니꿈꿔.” The members chatted with the audience about the contents of their drama and how each one would react to the spectacle if they were in the same situation. Of course, the insight into each member’s personality during the talk was a huge treat for Ahgases, especially with each one making an effort to communicate only in English.

The main stage performances of “You Are” and “Never Ever” signaled the end of the show, though prior to that Mark spilled the beans that there was definitely an encore. A quick VCR of the group having dinner together in Seoul before embarking on the tour teased that the encore would consist of unit performances. The units were revealed through an additional dramatic VCR, with the first unit shown to consist of Jinyoung and BamBam. The two performed the rather extra track “King,” which not only featured vocalist Jinyoung rapping, but the audience was treated to the two entering the stage while seated on thrones. At one point, BamBam even threw out a handful of fake money into the crowd.

Unit two was revealed to consist of members Mark, JB, and Youngjae performing their sexy R&B track “Think About It,” which was a nice contrast to that of the first unit. With only Yugyeom and Jackson left, each had a solo portion before performing the song “Phoenix” together. Jackson nearly killed the crowd at the end of the stage when he threw off his shirt out of nowhere.

Then came the most emotional portion of the show which many Aghases were dreading as they were not able to prepare emotionally beforehand. After another quick, sweet VCR, the boys returned to perform “고마워,” the song Jinyoung wrote and dedicated to Ahgases. There definitely wasn’t a dry eye in the room during this performance, yours truly included. It was a sweet way to end the concert, especially when the song was followed by each of the member’s ending ment.

Once everyone recovered from the emotional moment with the boys, one encore set was left. As any experienced K-Pop concert goer knows, the final set is always the most fun and interactive. The boys did a remix of “Look” and “Fly” before finishing up with “Go Higher,” all the while bouncing around the stage with their backup dancers. BamBam approached a section of the crowd and took a couple of fans’ cell phones to take selfies, while JB picked up a stray rose thrown on stage and danced around with it. Jinyoung, Jackson, and Mark also approached fans to shake a couple of hands. It was so much fun to see them letting loose and enjoying their time with Ahgases. JB even broke out into some ridiculous b-boying in the middle of the stage.

All in all, GOT7’s Eyes On You tour was an absolute treat to attend. Though planning for hi-touch was considerably disorganized and many fans were left anxious when answers couldn’t be given and knowledgeable staff could not be found, the concert went off on time without a hitch, and the boys never failed to entertain even for one moment. Despite being in a very large venue, the concert felt intimate and warm between the members and Ahgases, and though the show lasted for three hours, it felt as though time flew by, leaving fans both satisfied and wanting more. Don’t ever miss the opportunity to see this amazing group live!
