Simple Steps for Daily Skincare Routines

Incorporating skincare to your daily routine is important for achieving and maintaining healthy, clear skin. Although many people may do their skincare every day, the question is, are they applying the products correctly? Are the benefits and ingredients of each product used to their full potential? Well, here are some tips and tricks to ensure that your skin is getting all the love and care needed.

Cleanser

Cleansing your skin after a long day outside is very important to sustaining healthy skin with a natural glow. If wearing makeup is a daily essential as well then double cleansing is very important to making sure that any bacteria or oil from the makeup is fully removed from the skin. The type of cleanser used depending on your skin type is also very important; foam cleansers are better for oily skin and oil-based cleansers are better for dry skin. Cleansing too much can also become a problem because it causes the skin to feel uncomfortable, dry, and tight. Cleansing two times a day is suggested—once in the morning after you wake up and once at night before you go to sleep. When cleansing your face, apply a dime-sized amount onto the palm of your hands with a bit of water then rub it onto your face. After you feel that your skin is clean, wash it off with lukewarm water and pat the remaining water onto your face. If you use a towel to wipe the water off your face, the bacteria and dirt gathered onto your towel will then transfer onto your skin which will cause the skin to react, especially for people with sensitive skin.

Toner

Toner helps remove the remaining bacteria and dirt and, most importantly, close the pores after exposing them to the outside environment. Toner is also used to moisturize the skin and balance the pH level of your skin after cleansing. One way to apply toner is by adding a couple drops onto a cotton pad until the cotton pad is wet, but not completely saturated. Another way is to put a couple drops onto the palm of your hand. Then lightly swipe the cotton pad across your skin towards the outside of your face to prevent wrinkles from forming until your skin feels fully hydrated.

Essence & Treatments

These products are important for tackling specific skin concerns. The most important skin concern for all skin types is hydration. Essence is applied right after toner when the product will provide the most moisture and help in repairing skin cells. Treatments include boosters, serums, and ampoules, which are essentially concentrated essences. They directly target specific skin concerns such as wrinkles, dull skin, large pores, pigmentation, and acne. For dull skin, the best ingredient is Vitamin C. Many cosmetic companies have released serums and boosters with the main ingredient as Vitamin C. The most popular treatments are Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II and SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence. When applying them onto your skin, only use a pea-sized amount in the palm of your hands and lightly apply it onto your skin. To ensure that the product is absorbed into your skin, lightly pat your skin with your hands.

Eye Cream

Eye cream is essential as you continue to age because the main purpose is to prevent wrinkles and provide hydration. Skin around your eyes, under your nose, and around your lips are thinner compared to the rest of your face, which is why it requires more caution. Wrinkles form easier around the eyes due to smiling, so applying an extra layer of cream onto those areas provides more moisture to slow down the process. Use only a pea-sized amount of eye cream for both eyes and apply it using your ring finger because it is the weakest finger, so less pressure will be used when applying them onto the delicate areas of your face.

Moisturizers

Moisturizers are the final step to keeping your skin dewy and glowing; moisturizers can be an emulsion, lotion, gel, or cream. You should choose the type of moisturizer that best fits your skin type. Emulsions and lotions are better for people with oily skin, gels are better for normal/combination skin types, and creams are better for people with dry skin. This last step is to ensure that the moisture from all of the previous products are locked onto your skin and to smooth away fine lines. Depending on the amount of product you apply onto your skin, your skin can feel greasy, dry, or moisturized. If you apply too much product onto your skin, it can feel too heavy and greasy, and if you apply too little product onto the skin, it can feel dehydrated and dry. Apply a quarter-sized amount of moisturizer onto the palm of your hand and then gently apply the product onto your face. Lastly, lightly pat your skin with excess product to ensure that the product is absorbed into the skin.

All products are made essentially to provide hydration to the skin to maintain a healthy glow. After each step, remember to lightly pat the excess product onto your skin to ensure that your skin is absorbing all of the ingredients. Test each product to ensure that it fits your skin type because not all products are good for all skin types.
