Soundcloud Gems: J.Yung

International fans experience K-Pop differently than Korean fans. With the oversaturation of artists in the industry, it can be difficult to find upcoming, underground artists who have yet to break into the mainstream. Western music streaming services like iTunes and Spotify are doing a better job at incorporating extensive K-Pop catalogues, but for these lesser known artists, a site like Soundcloud helps connect them with their potential audience. There are so many talented artists swimming around this platform, so we’re highlighting artists that deserve your attention.

PC: A2G Sound

J.Yung

J.Yung is a rookie rapper who is really hard to find anywhere other than Soundcloud. He’s signed to A2G Sound, which also houses MaseWonder and PLZY. The rapper began releasing music on his profile two years ago and has since developed a jazzy chill-hop sound with the occasional electronic beat. Not many personal details are known about him yet, but he dropped his first music video for his single “Can I” back in February. The video is cute and colorful albeit amateur, but the song sends good vibes, like the majority of his tracks. And they’re all less than four minutes long, making his discography an easy listen.

“Dimsum”

This fresh track just dropped on September 19. “Dimsum” sounds like cruising down the cold streets of New York City as it approaches sunset.

“BIGGER”

“BIGGER” sits on a chill trap beat that comes in and out under a muzzled piano melody as J.Yung sing-raps.

“Playing”

“Playing” sounds like BewhY’s “Day Day” with an electronic backdrop. So, if that sounds appealing, you’ll probably enjoy this track.

“I Got No” feat. Jozu, Steezy Stash

J.Yung seems to work well with Steezy Stash, with three collaborations on his profile. The soft  opening chords are reminiscent of “Wi ing Wi ing” by Hyukoh, but it steadily builds in tempo to an upbeat, fun track.

“youreadynow”

The Sik-K autotune on this chill song is a tasteful addition. Short and sweet, it’ll definitely leave you wanting more.
