Throwback Thursday: Winter Wonderland
As days grow shorter and temperatures drop, parts of the world are already drifting into winter. With colder days ahead and holidays around the corner, The Kraze is bringing you some of our favorite snow-themed songs for this week’s Throwback Thursday: Winter Wonderland Edition!
“눈 Snow” - SURL
Indie band SURL released their first EP Aren’t You? in 2018, featuring their title track “Snow.” The song is cryptic and the music video kicks it up about ten notches, but one thing is clear about both: they’re sad. The holidays aren’t always the happiest of times for everyone so for those in need of a little comfort through commiseration, look no further than this gut-wrenching track from SURL.
“Winter Story” - LABOUM
LABOUM released their holiday-themed track “Winter Story” in 2016. Accompanied by a full orchestra and a magical music video befitting of the holiday season, the track sounds every bit like a winter fairytale. The bright melody along with the girls’ hopeful voices makes for the perfect background music to a snowy afternoon. Bonus: the track even has a key change at the end for maximum holiday cheer.
“When It Snows” - 1415
In the winter of 2018, the indie duo 1415 released “When It Snows,” a heartbreaking rock-ballad that compares fading memories of lost love to melting snow. Off their EP FROM : X, the song starts off quiet with just a piano before the addition of guitar and percussion in the second verse. The track then explodes into an emotional climax in the final chorus that is only outdone by its sudden, somber ending.
“I will go to you like the first snow” - Ailee
Arguably the most successful song of 2017, Ailee’s “I will go to you like the first snow” from tvN’s Goblin is almost synonymous with winter. The song topped Gaon’s digital and streaming charts in 2017 and eventually went on to break the record for the most-streamed song on the Gaon Chart along with winning numerous awards that same year. As any fan of the drama knows, this song plays a pivotal part in some of the most heartbreaking scenes in the show. Pair that with Ailee’s incredible vocal power and it’s a no-brainer that the song rises in charts every winter.
