Experience the Celebrity Life at Both Ends of the Spectrum

The entertainment industry sets the stage which provides celebrities with their very own moment to shine. Under the spotlight, the stars are able to showcase their best for the public.

But here’s a quick question: when do staff receive their portion of recognition for management of their celebrity? Well, here’s Omniscient Interfering View (전지적 참견 시점) for you. Broadcasted by MBC, Omniscient Interfering View (also called The Manager) puts weight on showing the relationship between celebrities and their managers rather than just the stars themselves; the emphasis redirects the audience’s attention, leading to the growth of appreciation for those working behind the stage.

What Is Omniscient Interfering View?

Starring the celebrity and his or her manager, this show gives a refreshing viewpoint into the everyday life of a star. In a sense, this “plot twist” is a new and entertaining way to experience the celebrity life from both sides. In some instances, stars’ true characters are displayed through reality shows or talk shows, but revealing the inner thoughts of the managers was almost impossible until this program came about. Through Omniscient Interfering View, the audience is given the opportunity to look into the thoughts of the manager through the VCR.

Who Can I See in Omniscient Interfering View?

The cast of the show consists of popular celebrities: Lee Youngja, Jun Hyunmoo, Yoo Byungjae, Yang Sehyung, and Song Eunyi. The panel sits in a studio set in which the structure of the seats is assembled as if a large circular table were placed in the middle; the seating arrangement makes it so that the members can easily converse with one another throughout the course of the show.

As much as the title of the program is Omniscient Interfering View, the cast plays the role of “interfering” in response to the presented VCR. Infusing a hi-tech system of installing a screen for every individual on the show allows for observations that can lead to finding out new sides of either figure. By commenting on each of the videos, the members offer suggestions or advice that might become the bridge in drawing the celebrity and manager closer to one another.

In the midst of all the talking, every cast member develops a memorable image to build up their unique character. To start off, Lee Youngja produced her own image as the so-called meokbang trendsetter. Showing her tremendous love for food, she set a meokbang wave into Korea; every menu she mentioned through her very own VCRs became so popular to the point that a few of the restaurants serving the menu had to close early due to limited supplies selling out fast. One look at the waiting lines at these places will make you realize how big of an impact and issue the comedian’s recommendations and suggestions brought. Next up is Song Eunyi who, from my perspective, seems to encompass a thoughtful character. Her witty talking skills definitely add humor into the flow of the show, but her way of finding points in the VCR, whether it focuses on the celebrity or manager at the time of the video, and relating back to the manager and complimenting them in terms of the effort and hard work really enhances her genuinity as a person. Jun Hyunmoo is definitely an entertainer that consists of humor and cleverness; from his extraordinary ways of hosting the show, one can really see the passion he holds for this program. Last but not least, Yang Sehyung and Yoo Byungjae hype up the atmosphere. With their ceaseless chemistry, the two members are always attacking each other. Whether it’s for a simple issue they’re dramatically spreading or a more serious matter, it’ll never be disappointing to watch the two entertainers’ interactions together.

The guests that appear on the program provide new sources of entertainment every episode. In fact, the managers report some sort of problem or concern they have in relation to their celebrity. For instance, SEVENTEEN’s manager reported that caring for a large number of members in the group often times is difficult—in aspects such as going on bathroom breaks during break time at music shows, deciding a menu for lunch, and more, the tasks seem to be much more tiring as there are more subjects to look over. Although SEVENTEEN has a total of three managers, carrying out each of their designated tasks does not lessen the workload as the number of figures needed to be cared for remains constant at 13 people.

Finding out about the lives of many celebrities, Omniscient Interfering View is a great program to watch for heartwarming content as well as a variety of entertaining scenes. Broadening the camera frame to capture not only the star but also those working for the celebrity adds a hint of freshness as no other media platforms officially air content with such a concept. Whether the celebrity and manager start out as best friends or awkward acquaintances, Omniscient Interfering View strengthens the bond of trust, drawing each one closer to each other and eventually creating a special relationship and loyalty.
