Ravi Flexes Like Gatsby in “Tuxedo”

Ravi comes out both hands swinging with his second mini-album R.OOK BOOK.  The title track “Tuxedo” brings a new sound to Ravi’s repertoire.

The Song

“Tuxedo” is a fun mix of disco meets synth with a touch of a classic hip-hop feel. The melody blends piano, synth sounds, and brass which mesh well with the beat, maintained by a classic drum kit and the additional rhythms added by shakers. Ravi’s unique voice mixes well, adding another layer to make the song feel complete.

The Music Video

Party, cars, and money are the quickest way to summarize this music video. Ravi is dancing, popping champagne and posing next to some expensive cars. The beginning and end of the video are framed by a scene of Ravi standing in front of the camera and women lit by pillars of fire in the background. The only thing that can be heard at these two parts are the sounds of breathing and the crackling of a fire, which I thought was an interesting way to frame the video. In some other scenes, we see Ravi dancing in shadows. His backdrop of solid vibrant colors make it look like he is starring in an old school iPod advertisement. The dance breaks are split between the solid backdrop and an empty room lit with yellow room lighting. Ravi is dressed in several different suits throughout the music video, the colors and styles creating an awesome visual.

Overall, the music video paired with the song was a classic Ravi move that I enjoyed immensely.
