Recent Repeats: Third Edition

With last month’s heavily saturated comeback schedule, this week we’ve chosen some of our favorite B-sides from the recent album releases.

“좋아해” - JBJ95

While JBJ95’s latest album has a lot of great songs, “좋아해” stands out the most. A track produced by Flow Blow, “좋아해” has a much more retro and funky vibe to it than the rest of the album, making it the most unique addition. It’s a song perfect for fans of traditional funk with a modern twist. The choreo is pretty great, too.

“Recognize” - Block B BASTARZ

I’ve always been a big fan of Block B BASTARZ, so it’s no surprise that I find myself fond of the latest release I’m a mess. B-Bomb’s solo tracks always seem to be my favorites, which continues to reign true with “Recognize,” a distinctive track that features a mixture of EDM and funk melodies laced together, creating an ultra-modern sound. The track also features one of my favorite rappers, punchnello. The beat drives from the first moment to the last, and it definitely has its own infectious charm.

“Dionysus” - BTS

As a BTS stan, I was expecting quite a lot from the latest album release. I’m always a big fan of the banger life, which the group thankfully provided in “Dionysus.” The melody features a mixture of rap and rock that is right up my alley, and I can’t help but picture how hard this song will go off when performed live.

“Kick It” - BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK’s latest mini-album Kill This Love had a more muted and mellow sound in the majority of their B-sides, which isn’t necessarily something I’m drawn to. So I was pleasantly surprised with “Kick It,” a song that has a heavier hip-hop focus in the melody and a strong message that matches well with the title.

“새벽에” - Epik High

Epik High certainly never disappoints with their album releases, so it’s no surprise that even a month later I’m still jamming out to sleepless in _______. “새벽에” caught my attention immediately, but that’s likely having to do with my SUGA stan-trained ear that picked up on his production feature in the song. The light hip-hop track has an upbeat and comforting vibe that distinguishes itself from the rest of the album and makes it an album favorite.
