B-Sides: Melt Your Heart

As summer arrives, thoughts of warm weather and summer love fill the air. This week in B-Sides, we will look at some songs that melt our hearts and remind us of young love.

“Wait” - EXO

Even though this track is their designated “winter song” on their repackaged “Love Shot” album, EXO sings a mesmerizing track that pulls at the heartstrings. With the stripped-back guitar and smooth acapella, they create an intimate and innocent atmosphere that reminds you of falling in love. Each member gets the chance to sing against the backdrop of perfectly blended voices, and EXO shows once again their talent for soft ballads. The song brings thoughts of warmth and sweet little moments as the group proclaims that they will wait for your love.

“Take Me To You” - GOT7

As evidenced by the title, this GOT7 track makes you want to hold on to the group and never let go. The group captivates you with their powerful, yet soft vocals and deep beat bass. The rap line and vocal line flow together in a well-defined romantic progression. The track sounds like sunshine and leaves you on the edge, wanting more. Just as the lyrics describe whispering birds in the sky that fly to them, GOT7 draws you in with this tender ballad.

“Chemistry” - SHINee

Veterans in the melting hearts department, SHINee’s “Chemistry” proves that they still know how to create a spark with their audience. With an approachable and uplifting sound, SHINee makes themselves irresistible. One word to describe is track is sensual. Rapper of the group Minho helped write the lyrics with writer Cho Yoongkyung, and they make you blush as they describe wanting to feel you and wanting to make you fall for them. The track as an ethereal vibe that fills you with tense yearning and an explosion of feelings.

“In Time” - MONSTA X

Slowing things down, MONSTA X’s “In Time” sets a dreamy tone as the group wishes that time would stop so that they can spend time with you. The simple glockenspiel bell rifts throughout the track, giving it an atmosphere of child-like innocence that makes the song all the more precious. Something that stands out in the song are the rap parts—Changkyun’s soft rap contrasts against Jooheon’s more passionate rap as they show you the different sides of blooming love. Needless to say, this song makes you want to slow-dance late into the night.

“Daybreak” - NU’EST

In a sub-unit with Minhyun and JR, NU’EST brings you a charming track that sounds like it is straight out of a K-Drama. Using the image of finding each other in the night before daybreak, they capture your attention with a sweet melody and clear vocals. The more upbeat backtrack gives the song a glowing sound that just makes you want to cuddle and smile until your face hurts. The laid-back simplicity of the song hearkens back to first-date butterflies, but they don’t need to play with your heart because they already have it.
