NCT Dream Joins the DNYL club

Despite stating “Don’t Need Your Love,” the DNYL club members Jeno, Renjun, Chenle, Jaemin, Jisung, and HRVY allure us to fall more in love with them.

The little kids, who were playing around with chewing gum and toys years ago, have now grown into young adults, joining a club of their own called the “DNYL club.”

The track released on June 6 serves as the 14th track in season 3 of SM Station, a digital project run by SM Entertainment involving various collaborations from artists around the world. Following “Best Day Ever,” “Candle Light,” and “Hair In The Air,” “Don’t Need Your Love” becomes NCT Dream’s fourth station track to exhibit their group colors. The DNYL leader, Harvey Leigh Cantwell (HRVY), stands no lesser to his members as he is known for his mellow vocals. The 20-year-old British singer is also crowned as a promising newcomer with his previous hits like “I Wish You Were Here” and “Told You So.”

The Single

With a sweet-sounding rhythm, HRVY begins his English verse declaring the feelings of a break-up. The track showcases the members’ tender and soothing vocals as they harmonize in unison for various parts of the song. The pre-chorus leads to an upbeat chorus, making us sing along with the repetitive lines, “Don’t need it.” The tag-line “I don’t need your love” carried out through the chorus becomes a hook for fans at the very first listen. The lyrics are about turning an unsuccessful relationship into a happier and more confident reality as the members of the club decided not to turn back to the relationship again.

Complementing the soft vocals, the music video is set with aesthetically pleasing visuals. The video starts with HRVY cheerfully singing, while the other members are still upset and regretting their break-up. Once the leader invites them to the club with hot-pink badges saying “DNYL,” Jeno, Chenle, Renjun, Jaemin, and Jisung beam with bright smiles, all dressed in red and white matching hoodies. Shots are captured at various places in the school setting like the library, classrooms, gardens, and the football and basketball courts, which add a youthful feel to the video. The club members deliver their lines with laughter and joy while breaking heart signs. HRVY joins along with NCT Dream, making them a sextet in bright pink costumes, dancing together to the rhythmic beat.

The enjoyable track satisfies and fulfills all expectations of being a fun song to listen to at moody times. The Station song can also be considered an unshaken promise for the future success of NCT Dream’s and HRVY’s musical careers.
