From “Euphoria” to Now: Get to Know Candace Sosa

To anyone with a penchant for perusing K-Pop album credits, the name Candace Sosa might look familiar. Perhaps most notably, the young producer-songwriter has written for BTS, with some of the groups most beloved tracks such as “Magic Shop,” “Mikrokosmos,” and “Euphoria” credited to her name. With a repertoire already so full of hit songs, it’s no surprise that Candace is looking to hit it big on her own with a new focus on her solo career.

In an interview on Welcome to My World, Candace admitted she’s been writing music since she was 11 years old. Though time and hard work have helped her talent age well, there’s no denying she’s a young force to be reckoned with, coming in at only 23 years old. Her go-to styles tend to have an electronic-pop flair to them, with her citing DJ-producer ILLENIUM as a major musical influence. It’s no surprise, then, that her style lends itself well to BTS’s 2018 top-selling albums, Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer, with the group’s recent discography full of dream-pop EDM. Candace’s most current work with BTS is the ethereal “Mikrokosmos” off of Map of the Soul: PERSONA, a track which saw success as the closing song to BTS’s sold out LOVE YOURSELF: SPEAK YOURSELF world tour.

As stated in the previously mentioned interview, Candace’s path first crossed with BTS due to her work with DJ Swivel, whom she became interested in after watching one of his seminars. She sent him her song, then titled “Killing Time,” and after working on it together, the track was pitched to various artists, including BTS. Though the song inevitably went through some changes, it grew into a song loved by not only Candace but also millions of people around the world: “Euphoria.”

Though Candace’s influence can be seen in other BTS tracks like “Magic Shop,” “Love Maze,” “Answer: Love Myself,” and “I’m Fine,” it’s “Euphoria” that she holds dearest to her heart. And she’s not the only one: the music video for “Euphoria” has garnered almost 50 million views since its release last April. BTS’s loyal ARMY is not to thank for all these views, though, as the song recently reached wider audiences through its inclusion on the HBO hit show also titled “Euphoria,” starring Zendaya

Though she’s still writing, producing, and pitching for various K-Pop and Western acts, Candace has also recently started working with Roli, a music technology company that has seen top producers such as Hans Zimmer, Pharrell, Finneas, Ryan Tedder, and Kygo among others use their products. Meanwhile, Candace’s new solo material is slated to be released later this year, so if you count yourself among those millions of fans that have been moved to tears while listening to “Euphoria,” keep your eyes peeled.
