Bang Yongguk Releases Special Single, “Orange Drive”
Former B.A.P leader Bang Yongguk has returned after four months to gift fans a special single titled “Orange Drive.” This is particularly special to BABYz and fans of Yongguk, seeing as it marks his last release before military enlistment. The leader and rapper enlisted on August 1 and will be serving his mandatory two-year military service after completing basic training.
“Orange Drive” is a blend of jazz and R&B, fit for those laid back summer days. There is a soothing vibe to the song that makes it feel as though Yongguk himself were embracing his audience, reminding listeners that he will return and urging them to continue moving forward. The lyrics are quite literally a letter to his fans and supporters, in which he lets them know he will be okay, in addition to relaying feelings about his current state in life. The B.A.P leader has opened up about his struggles with mental health in the past, and it is heartwarming that he cares about letting fans know he feels more comfortable with loving himself.
The “orange drive” he refers to throughout the song is a reference to the sunset’s orange glow, and perhaps a metaphor for the journey we all call life. The music video itself features Yongguk walking on the beach as the sun slowly sets in the background, further emphasizing the theme of the song. Though this may be the last that we’ll hear from him in a while, fans near and far are patiently waiting for the day he returns from service to work on new music.
Until then, may we meet again Bang Yongguk. See you soon!
