Ah, there’s truly nothing like a good retro K-Pop concept. This week’s Throwback Thursday brings you another round of some of our most beloved vintage concepts from years past. From disco to jazz, the many retro concepts in K-Pop have something for everyone.

“Sweet Girl” - B1A4

BIA4’s 2015 single “Sweet Girl” sounds like something straight out of a disco-lover’s dream. As the title track off their sixth mini-album of the same name, “Sweet Girl” is a lighthearted song about love. With groovy orchestral strings and an even groovier bass guitar, the disco-like vibes in the track make for the perfect background to the pure bliss that comes along with being in love.

“Bing Bing” - CRAYON POP

In 2012, CRAYON POP came onto the scene with their first mini-album and its title track, “Bing Bing.” The upbeat pop track features a full vintage brass line, with intense trumpet runs making for an interesting contrast to the otherwise simple and generic pop track. Perhaps even more intriguing is the bass line: while the percussion is still electronic for the most part, the bass is dominated by a strong tuba sound.

“DAB DAB” - MAMAMOO 

Otherwise known as the queens of retro concepts, MAMAMOO once again hit it out of the vintage park in 2016 with Hwasa and Moonbyul’s duet “DAB DAB.” Featuring a jazzy piano riff straight out of the 1920s, “DAB DAB” mixes modern day rap flows with old-timey instrumentation, creating a track so effortlessly quirky and sassy that only MAMAMOO could pull it off.
