ATEEZ Find the “Answer” in Their New Music Video

A little over a year later, ATEEZ has finally come to the end of their Treasure series. After four Korean releases and one Japanese release, ATINY’s were given a new years gift of the final piece of the Treasure series titled Treasure Epilogue: Action to Answer. A five-track EP with a few new songs and songs that were previewed at the one-year anniversary event back in October. The title track “Answer” isn’t the usual musical choice that ATEEZ have shown us for title tracks; however, as the Treasure series comes to a close, ATINY are curious to see the next step in the long journey ahead with ATEEZ.

About the Song

The song is different from ATEEZ’s usual choices for album title tracks, which makes it a refreshing first track. Musically, the song is heavy on piano and digital percussion. Single keys are able to be picked out throughout the song. The hook into the chorus incorporates different string instruments, like the latin guitar and violin. In some parts, voices are woven into the instrumental, adding an additional layer atop of ATEEZ’s vocals. Towards the end of the song, Mingi and Hongjoong have a conversation in their rap verse, adding a good break from the vocal heavy track. Like most ATEEZ songs there is an easy English line for international fans to grab onto while listening, which is “One two three let's burn.” What I found most interesting about the track is how San acts as the framing vocal: he opens and closes the song, and sings key lines in the chorus.

About the Music Video

The music video is a journey from start to finish. It begins with a mysterious person walking through a destroyed dining room before it flashes to San dancing on a table in the same room. Members are shown in various scenes that allude back to previous music videos. A few members to note are Mingi alone in the boat, which alludes back to the “Wave” and “Illusion” era, Yeosang in the desert from the “Pirate King” era, and Wooyoung and San’s scenes focus around the “Hala Hala” and “Say My Name” eras. All of these connections really brings things to full circle. However, the most memorable part of the music video is the scene in which the members are sitting across the table from themselves dressed in the fan favorite bandit outfits, creating a fascinating contrast between the eras. One of the dance scenes are done in a stark black room with big stadium lights and a tapestry above them that is reminiscent of their “Treasure” days. The other dance scene is done in the room that Wooyoung was sitting in earlier in the music video. The final scenes of the music video is what keeps viewers guessing. We leave the members at the end of a dramatic dance break, the scene cuts to black and then we return to the scene from the beginning of the music video. The mystery person is revealed, their face covered with what can be described as a sparkly, spiky fencing mask. They are seen walking through the destroyed dining room that looks like the same one that ATEEZ met their bandit selves in earlier scenes.

While ATEEZ may have found their “Answer” in this music video, ATINY are left with nothing but questions and are waiting for more.
