DRIPPIN brings “Nostalgia” in Their Debut Music Video

Woolim Entertainment, home of INFINITE and Golden Child, has debuted another boy group by the name of DRIPPIN. This seven member group are no strangers to the public—six out of the seven members were first seen on Produce X 101. Member Junho was part of the lineup for X1, making fans anticipate his re-debut even more. Their debut release is titled BOYAGER, a six track mini-album featuring their title track “Nostalgia.”

About The Song

The song plays true to its title. “Nostalgia” will make any longtime K-Pop fan remember the early days of K-Pop fondly. The song begins with a funky melody created by a mix of piano and electronic sounds that blend well with the beginning vocals. As the song progresses it adds a snapping percussion, layering even more into the pre-chorus. The best part of the song is the chorus where it has a catchy sound that makes it easy for the listener to catch on fast and be able to hum along by the time the chorus returns after the second verse. Something to point out is how simple the end of the chorus is with the lyrics “Lalalalalala Lalalalalalala Nostalgia.” It’s such a simple part but it is bound to be the one part of the song that everyone will remember.

About the Music Video

The music video is what one would expect for a debut group. The color scheme is simple, muted earth tones that all the members look well against. The cuts switch between solo shots that pan across the members’ faces to give the viewers a good look and the wide group shots that showcase the group as a whole during choreography scenes. Since it is a debut music video, there are always things to pay a little bit more attention to that may reappear in other music videos. In this one, the color yellow seems to play a big role, appearing as flowers, tangled webs, and even strings tied to members' fingers. With such a prominent fixture of the music video, it’s easy to assume it’s an important piece of DRIPPIN’s puzzle. Different settings in the music video include an attic, desert, and a room draped in linens that bear the same yellow tones that are seen over and over again throughout the video. After the first few views, it’s unsure if there is a storyline to be found, however those more familiar with the group’s pre-debut activities may be able to find a connection. Overall, the music video is one that fans of other Woollim groups would expect for a debut as it echoes a feel seen in video from other senior artists.

Final Thoughts

DRIPPIN has shown that the glory days of K-Pop are here to stay. They play to both old and young K-Pop fans alike with their debut song. Will DRIPPIN be able to live up to the reputation of their seniors? If this release is any indication, DRIPPIN’s future looks very bright.
