Zion.T Teams up with SUMIN for “Dirty Love”

It’s a great day for K-R&B fans when two powerhouses combine. Alone, both Zion.T and SUMIN are extremely powerful vocalists, but together they are something even greater. In her career exploring the indie side of things, SUMIN has worked with artists like Park Kyung, BewhY, WOODZ, and many others and has a rather impressive production record. At first glance it may seem like Zion.T is the bigger media behemoth in this duo, but it’s dangerous to underestimate what SUMIN brings to the table.

So what kind of track would these two grace the world with? Zion.T can go many directions with his music, but for this single we get a moderate tempo, groovy beat with a distinctly retro feel. The beat has a catchy off-tempo feeling, giving the song a bit more flare. SUMIN begins the track with her distinctive and smooth vocals, carrying us into Zion.T’s verse in an unbelievably smooth transition. The two vocalists have a very complementary vocal style that’s unlike anything heard in previous collabs; they flow together so well and their harmonizations are on point. It’s hard to fully explain why this works so well, just know that it does. This is especially apparent when they come together to harmonize the chorus at the end of the track.

The lyrics sing of a broken-hearted woman struggling to get over a broken relationship with Zion.T coming in to emphasize that he is simply there to support her, not try and take advantage of her. His lines are particularly cute as he declares, “I don’t want to be your hero, I just wanna be your friend. Baby I know I’m a weirdo, but I can play pretend.” It’s extremely fitting for Zion.T, a singer known for his rather eccentric taste that comes out in his music videos.

That reigns true with the videography in “Dirty Love” as well. It definitely has a bit of that Zion.T flare, with emphasis on some odd shots and odd fashion choices, most specifically his golden grillz and his signature pose of being in the shot without moving. SUMIN’s fashion is also quite loud, particularly the bright pink ruffled dress and the black leather corset around her waist. Regardless of your personal preference when it comes to music video videography, there’s no denying the catchiness of this track and the beautiful harmonization the two bring to the table.
