B-Sides: March 2020 Favorites
March has been a comparatively slow, yet steady, month with understandably few releases and comebacks. Indeed, the whole world has slowed down over recent weeks, with many postponements and cancelations. But there are still some great songs to shout about this month. So, here we give you a few handpicked favorite releases from March to listen to while we get through this bumpy phase of life.
“Interview” – Kang Daniel
The song from Kang Daniel’s second EP CYAN is a calm and composed track that can help restore peace in listeners’ minds. With chill beats and mellow vocals, the song emphasizes the artist’s sweet-sounding vocals. The song sings about interviewing and finding similarities with a crush, with snippets of English lyrics here and there, Daniel manages to make his fans’ heart throb. Along with this B-side, the entire album is a treat for his fans, who have been missing him for quite some time.
“BYE BYE” – Ong Seongwoo
Kang Daniel’s former WANNA ONE member, Ong Seongwoo also made his comeback this month with his first-ever, mini-album, LAYERS. “BYE BYE” is another slow-paced song on our list, yet it hits with a different concept and attitude. The partially rock-influenced track sings about getting over an ex-lover. Bitterness and betrayal are expressed in the angsty lyrics, as the chorus sings, “I am sorry, I am not stupid anymore.” The different layers and catchy chorus are sure to put the track in a prominent place in your playlist.
“24HRS” – ITZY
Speaking of rookies, we have ITZY showing off their badass concept once again in their latest EP, IT’Z ME. In their track, “24HRS” the girls flaunt their attitude as they sing about their confidence, swag, and dominance over the world thanks to their uniqueness. Ryujin introduces the track with her low rap verses, setting a cool tempo for the song. The addictive track is sure to stir up the listener’s bold spirit and would be an excellent addition to a morning playlist.
“Love Me Now” – NCT 127
One of the best comebacks of March is definitely NCT 127’s new EP, NCT #127 Neo Zone. One standout among their beautiful tracks is “Love Me Now”, a peppy and bright song that will no doubt have the listener smiling and singing along–it’s incredibly fun and adorable. The catchy rhythm and lyrics request the listeners to fall in love with the members as they sing, “I want you to love me now”. With the members’ harmonizing, it’s the vocal line that takes the spotlight with their piercing high notes.
“Nightmare” – VICTON
VICTON is back as seven thanks to Seungwoo’s return which is one among many reasons to celebrate their latest mini-album, CONTINUOUS. “Nightmare” is the second promoted track from the album and a firm favorite with ALICE. With the haunting ticking of a clock, Subin begins his verses in an eerie, yet alluring way. As Seungwoo sings, “Please end this nightmare,” the plot reveals with members asking to be freed from a nightmare with the power of love. With the concept of werewolves continuing from their title track, “Howling,” the lyrics are written from a wolf’s perspective to the moon. With chilling instrumentals and sensuous vocals, the spine-chilling track is indeed one of the best from the septet.
