B.A.P’s Jongup Makes Retro Solo Debut with “Headache”

B.A.P’s dance machine Jongup has made his long-awaited solo debut! Though this is his official debut as a soloist, the artist has previously released singles such as “Try My Luck” and “Now.” After leaving TS Entertainment in February 2019, Jongup finally signed with The Groove Company in November. After over a year of waiting for new music, the veteran musician makes a fresh start with an even fresher concept.

The Single: “Headache”

Fans of the retro sound will immediately be smitten with this track. The groovy rhythm accompanied by Jongup’s sweet vocals is a treat for listeners, and the addition of YUNHWAY’s rap verse is the cherry on top. Her vocal flavor adds another dimension to the otherwise sugary sweet melody. The strength in this track is without a doubt the retro vibes thrown in the entire concept, a fresh perspective given the focus on EDM and futuristic sounds.

What really makes the icing on the cake for “Headache” is the music video. These days we all need something uplifting and sweet, which is exactly what this video provides. There are no intense theories to be drawn from this video, no super deep metaphors; simply the visual story of a boy spotting a girl and falling for her, and scenes of their romance blossoming. The lead female is also quite striking considering she is clearly not of Korean origin, adding an element of worldliness to the video. By far the most charming point is when the two perform the choreography together, leaving a sense of delight in the clear picture of happiness. As a main dancer, his choreography is eye-catching and upbeat, matching the single perfectly.

If things are getting tough for you, “Headache” is a perfect pick-me-up to lift your mood and bring you a little taste of joy when things are difficult. Jongup’s single is a perfect groove for the summer time, and a great start to his solo career.
