Throwback Thursday: Ice Cream Edition

Last week, we at The Kraze celebrated the return of warmer weather with some of the hottest hits from the past, so for this week’s Throwback Thursday, we’re cooling it back down with our favorite ice cream-themed throwbacks.

“Ice Cream” - HyunA

Fresh off her starring role in PSY’s newly viral “Gangnam Style” music video, HyunA’s “Ice Cream” comes off her 2012 EP Melting. Though the track was released in October, there are plenty of summer vibes to go around thanks to the abundance of ice cream references. The music video takes things even further, with shots of HyunA dancing in an ice cream shop and driving an ice cream truck.

“Abing abing” - ORANGE CARAMEL

In late spring 2014, ORANGE CARAMEL released “Abing abing” as a promotional song for Baskin Robbins. The summery pop track doesn’t beat around the bush when it comes to product placement, even going as far as to namedrop ice cream flavors, but it’s the music video that really drives the message home. Between ORANGE CARAMEL’s quirky, ice cream-themed outfits and endless colorful, summery sets, just one watch of this music video will have you Googling the nearest ice cream shop.

“Ice Cream Cake” - Red Velvet

Chances are if you opened this article, you expected to see this song on the list. The title track off of Red Velvet’s first mini-album of the same title, the summer song is the first to feature the group’s maknae Yeri. This 2015 bop was the perfect start for the girls as a five-member group and while it might not be their biggest hit anymore, there’s no denying the impact it had on the third generation of K-Pop.

“Macaroon Honey Dduk - Yum-Yum” - Produce 101

As part of the first season of Produce 101, Somi, Yoojung, Dani, Chanmi, Siyeon, Soyeon, and Chaeyeon banded together to show off their skills in “Macaroon Honey Dduk Yum-Yum.” The trap-pop song has a similar childlike sound to Red Velvet’s “Ice Cream Cake” and its addictive “yum yum” chorus is bound to get stuck in your head. It’s no wonder the performance earned the girls an encore call on the show.
