Looking at Lips

Lip products are a popular essential in Korean beauty culture. If you’re new to what the Korean makeup industry has to offer, don’t worry; Korean makeup has become so popular that it is possible to find products near you. Let’s take a look at the three main types of lip coloring and how they are used in Korean beauty looks!

Lipstick

Lipstick is typically the most used of these three different types. It is a creamy texture and comes in a variety of colors. Lipsticks have evolved into subgenres for any lip product lover— from matte finishes to now being infused with lip glosses and shimmer to add shine to your lip. A recent lipstick look that has become quite popular in Korea is wearing a matte lipstick in a bright color, most often pink, to draw attention to one's lips. Hwang Bora’s character, Bong Sera, from the K-drama, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? is often seen wearing a bright lipstick.

Lip Tints

If you are looking for a long lasting color, lip tint is for you! The application is simple and leaves a bright matte finish. The only drawback for lip tints is that they tend to dry out your lips, so applying a lip balm on top \is the perfect way to counteract the dryness. Lip tints are used to help achieve the popular gradient lip look. It has been a popular trend in South Korea for some time, as it looks as though you just sucked on a lollipop and brings out an innocent child-like appearance. You can achieve this look by putting concealer on your lips and then adding the lip tint to the middle of your lower lip and upper lip. K-pop boy group, EXO, even popularized the lip tint, Chateau Labiotte Wine, when mentioning it in their song “Lotto.” The product sold out online immediately after the song's release.

Lip Gloss

Lip gloss is known for its wet finish when applied. The colors are not very pigmented and focus more on the shimmery aspect as glitter and shimmer-based colors are typically added. It is a good way to add moisture to your lips while adding a little color to your look. The Korean skincare trends for 2020 focus on skin hydration. Lip gloss is able to create that rejuvenating hydrated look for lips that will make you look healthier and brighter.
