B-Sides: 10 Years with Bonamana

As K-Pop fans, we are likely to know Super Junior as the group is known for their prominent place in the industry for more than a decade. Irrespective of the K-Pop timeline we belong to, the act’s journey and unbeatable records still amaze us today. From their iconic single “Sorry Sorry” to the recent release “2YA2YAO,” Super Junior had and still has so much to offer to the world.

The group’s fourth studio album Bonamana, being one of the notable works of the group, turned a decade old in May this year. While we are very aware of the hit single with the same title, some might not know about the hidden gems the album carries. This week to celebrate a decade of Bonamana and the fourteenth birthday of ELFs, let us tune to a few of our favorite b-sides that are everlasting.

“Boom Boom”

“Boom Boom” is a track totally capable of being a title of the album, as the rhythmic beats and addictive chorus can pull in the listeners from the very first listen. The pop track’s instrumentals are indeed very much similar to their trademark style of “SJ Funky,” incorporating funk and hip hop. Despite knowing that it is a sin to fall in love with a bad girl, the members take the risk of being drawn towards the girl as the chorus sings, “I was attracted to her bad image, I see it, is it wrong of me to say?” The pleasing vocals and descriptive narration about the girl is all totally worth falling in love with the song. And as a cherry to the top, Heechul’s tagline, “She's so pretty, it's a sin,” at the end of every chorus is a stealer.

“Coagulation”

“Coagulation” is a melancholic melody sung by the well-known trio K.R.Y. With mild piano notes, the very first line from Ryeowook can stop our hearts from beating. Without a translator or a lyrics book, one could sense that this song is all about being hurt, as Yesung, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun beautifully share the protagonist’s pain in their expressive vocals. The verses are purposefully sung with the members’ mellow and shaky voices to make the listener empathize along with the mood. And with no doubt, the trio sounds heavenly together, enriching our audio senses.

“My Only Girl”

“My Only Girl” is a pop track with peppy beats. With repetitive rhythm and beats, the song is prone to get stuck in our head, as we can find ourselves effortlessly singing, “You're my only my only my oh oh oh oh only girl. Cause I fall in I fall in I fall in love,” along with the song. The lyrics are quite romantic and cheesy, just perfect for the fans to fall in love with the song. The members’ pleasant vocals and blissful harmonization is indeed a plus.

“My All Is In You”

“My All Is In You” is a melody focusing on the group’s exceptional singing skills. The very title has so much to narrate, as the song sings about bidding a bitter goodbye to a loved one. The vocal sync of the members is inevitable, as they sound blissful. With unimaginable high notes shared by Ryeowook and Yesung and soothing verses, the song tends to stay in your playlist as an aesthetic listen.

“Shake It Up”

If you are looking for a light song that can ease you from the daily routine, “Shake It Up” is the perfect track to be on your list. With a pretty attractive introduction, the song flows as a funky hip hop track. With no exception, the song is definitely fun and catchy to tune in. “Now your life that repeats itself daily shake it up. Now your repeated thoughts of sadness shake it up,” sings Donghae as the listeners are left to enjoy the moment. Being a prominent rapper of the group, Eunhyuk has a notable rap verse which adds more flavor to the peppy mood of the song.  On the whole, the song is a perfect track to fit into your party playlist.

“In My Dream”

“In My Dream” is a mellow breezy track that sings on being indulged in a dream forever without being hindered by the painful reality. The K.R.Y trio is extended as a quintet including Sungmin and Donghae to grace the melody with their sweet vocals. The aura of the song is quite similar to “Coagulation,” as the track could drown the listener in empathetic sadness. As for the impactful chorus, the main vocalists trio, K.R.Y ascends the throne with their strong and powerful vocals carrying the song to the next level.

“One Fine Spring Day”

“One Fine Spring Day” is a sweet ballad gifted by Ryeowook as a solo artist. With mild keyboard notes, the singer mellows on missing his loved one. “You are so very far, so very far. To be honest I miss you every day,” sings the chorus, reflecting on the protagonist’s mournful aching. Despite not being a ballad person, any listener would find themselves moved by the artist’s surreal vocals and the fragile music piece accompanying the track. The ballad is indeed one of the essential tear jerking tracks on a playlist.

“All My Heart”

“All My Heart” is a refreshing track featured on the repackage of the album. The song brings out the happiness and excitement of finally being together with a loved one. “In this moment I’m really happy. I’m really grateful that you came to me,” sings the chorus, making the fans feel more special and loved. One of the notable traits and trademarks of the group is their perfect sync during the chorus and the act undoubtedly shows off their skill while harmonizing together for the delightful chorus. Both the audio and lyrics are sweet and pure, making the listener flash a smile every time the chorus pops up.

“Here We Go”

“Here We Go” is an up-beat song with peppy beats. Complementing the bright instrumentals, the song sings about the positive perspective of getting to live an amazing life. The hand claps and chants are sure to uplift the spirits and make us sing along. “Here we go, what else could I hope for? Living is quite sweet,” sings the chorus, hyping the listeners to see the bright side of being gifted with this life. The song will be a perfect listen in the morning playlist and can entertain any audience irrespective of their music taste.

The entire album is a package to treasure and I hope you got to listen to it and witness it yourself! Let us know your favorite track from the album in the comments!
