LOONA’s Gowon Creates Viral Convenience Store Meal
Something so simply made yet so delicious.
Gowon is part of the 12-member girl group LOONA, who up until recently was constantly teased about her skills in the kitchen (due to her almost burning down the LOONA dorm twice while trying to cook chicken nuggets). However, with the unveiling of the Gowon Meal Set, the tune has definitely changed. Gowon showed this simple meal to her members on a recent LOONA V-Live.
The Gowon Meal Set (고원 정식) has become a viral hit in just a few days. It is made up of two things: BulMakChang (불막창) and Cheese Bokki (치즈 볶이). These two items can usually be found in a neighborhood convenience store for less than $10 USD. However, thanks to Gowon, it is becoming harder to locate them, meaning that extra trips to different stores are necessary in order to try this delicious meal.
How to Make the Gowon Meal Set
First, heat up the BulMakChang. You can heat it in the microwave by cutting a notch in the microwaveable pouch and warming it for 90 seconds. Or if you’re at home, you can heat up the BulMakchang in a skillet on the stove. Once that is done, pour it back into the plastic container, if eating in the convenience store, or onto a serving dish. Next, prepare the Cheese Bokki separately as you usually would.
The key to enjoying the Gowon Meal Set is to eat the Cheese Bokki and the BulMakChang together in one bite! The cheesiness of the Bokki and the spiciness of the MakChang are a match made for your tastebuds.
Widespread Attention
Once #Orbits started trying the Gowon Meal Set and posting on social media, it started getting attention from all parts of the web, including the two biggest convenience stores in Korea. CU posted the recipe on its Instagram and GS25 went a step further and invited her to do a fanmeet.
It even got the attention of several Korean YouTube creators, one of whom is Nado who runs a meokbang-themed channel. Check out her video here (it has English subtitles).
More and more viral foods are popping up in Korea these days, so there is always something new to try. Could the Gowon Meal Set become as popular as the Mark Meal? Is there something you would like to see us try? Let us know by shooting us a message on Twitter or Instagram at @KrazeMagazine.
