What Is Hobicore?

Hobicore is named after BTS member j-hope with much of this fashion look centered around his very distinct aesthetic, which is fun and colorful and makes everyone smile when they see it. j-hope’s daily looks are inspired by street fashion and composed of oversized clothes, chunky shoes, and lots of accessories. He often incorporates bright colors, patterns, rainbows, the Murakami flower and, of course, lots of smiley faces which have become the basis for hobicore.

Hope World

Hope World is j-hope’s first mixtape released in 2018. Along with this album, he released a music video for title track “Daydream.” Both the album cover and video were the beginning of the hobicore aesthetic as they explode with the star’s personality. They give us bright red, blue, and yellow colors as well as the retro-inspired font that is often used for the aesthetic.

“Chicken Noodle Soup”

Released in fall of 2019, “Chicken Noodle Soup” featuring Becky G really showed off his fashion streetwear style. Fans noticed there was particular detail in his accessories, namely the fact the rapper added a personal touch to each piece of jewelry he was wearing.

“Ego”

In February 2020 the comeback trailer for Map of the Soul by BTS was released through j-hope’s solo song “Ego.” The upbeat tune and bright aesthetic perfectly encapsulate j-hope's personality, his streetwear style, and the overall hobicore aesthetic.

Featured in both “Chicken Noodle Soup” and “Ego” were the rapper’s unique beaded bracelets incorporating his name, which he paired with colorful chunky rings!

What makes hobicore so special is how fun and cheery the aesthetic is and how much you can personalize the look. Many fans incorporate it into their own looks and even get crafty. In terms of accessories, you can make your own beaded bracelets or necklaces, which j-hope teaches how to make in a V LIVE. Others have also incorporated the hobicore touch into their outfits by decorating their clothes with the colorful aesthetic, whether it’s painting bright flowers and smiley faces onto a jean jacket, painting shoes, or even decorating their phone case.

Hobicore brings joy to anyone who sees the happy colors. What would you decorate with hobicore?
