BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez Make a Sugary Sweet Team with “Ice Cream”

BLACKPINK is back at it once again with yet another single for fans to enjoy. But this time, the quartet brings a sweet surprise by collaborating with none other than international pop sensation Selena Gomez! Like Thanos, it seems that BLACKPINK is collecting these fierce international collaborations like Infinity Stones. From Dua Lipa to Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez is the next to join the list. Titled “Ice Cream,” BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez aim to cool this year’s hot summer with this fun and bubbly track.

“Ice Cream Chillin’”

As the follow-up to “How You Like That,” “Ice Cream” is much more of a chill track that is great to put on while sitting poolside. “Ice Cream” shows BLACKPINK in a bubbly and cute atmosphere, which is a refreshing switch up from the girl crush concept that the group is known for. While many are used to the dance-heavy style that BLACKPINK has made a staple for themselves, “Ice Cream” is a more laid back, groovy, and modest type of style. Although the lyrics are much more forward and tongue-in-cheek, there is this sugary-sweet bite to the song that will make one blush and smile the more times “Ice Cream” is played.

It should also be noted that while many are used to hearing and seeing features that are limited to having the featuring artist on a verse, Selena Gomez seamlessly blends into the song, practically making herself a member of the girl group. Selena does have an ample amount of lines in the song, which is once again a refreshing spin on features that is not often seen in K-Pop.

One thing that many can appreciate about the music video is that the editing and production is done so well, it’s hard to distinguish that the music video was shot in two different locations. The music video is definitely glam and super cute, filled with pastels and other bright colors. The outfits that all the ladies wear are must-have-in-closet staples for all the fashion fanatics watching. Additionally, viewers get a glimpse of the choreography for “Ice Cream” as well. Perhaps the best part of the music video is BLACKPINK jumping around on inflatable jumpers and driving around in miniature cars, showing a carefree and playful side to them that is very reminiscent of “As If It Was Your Last” and “Boombayah.”

“Ice Cream” does take some time to grow on listeners, especially with the song being a definite change up from their previous releases. Nonetheless, it’s still a good song from the group and one that many will appreciate. Rest assured fans are heavily anticipating BLACKPINK’s first ever album set to release this coming October, and we will have to just wait and see what the powerhouse girl group has to offer up next.
