Throwback Thursday: Shut up ‘N Groove
Sometimes you hear a song and you can’t help but groove to it. In times like this, The Kraze is here to help buff up your playlist with some of K-Pop’s most infectious dance tracks.
“Shut Up & Groove” - HEIZE feat. DEAN
HEIZE’s 2016 collab with DEAN, “Shut Up & Groove,” is the stuff of R&B dreams. The track marks the first time that the duo paired up, featured on HEIZE’s second mini-album And July along with their other duet of the same name. Both singles charted in Korea, with “Shut Up & Groove” even entering the Billboard U.S. World Chart.
“LOVE ME RIGHT” - EXO
From their unparalleled vocals to their exceptional charm, if there’s one word to define EXO, it’s smooth, and no song shows this better than “LOVE ME RIGHT.” The song comes off their 2015 repackaged album of the same name and is the follow-up release to the group’s iconic hit, “Call Me Baby.” The song is just so dang good that it even served as EXO’s debut Japanese single (translated into a separate Japanese version, of course).
“Dynamite” - VIXX
“Dynamite” is the equally catchy and sultry single from VIXX’s 2016 single album Zelos, the first of the group’s VIXX 2016 CONCEPTION trilogy. Though the boys of VIXX are no strangers to versatility, the funky “Dynamite” shows yet another side to the masters of dark concepts. In addition to topping numerous domestic charts, the song led the group to five music show wins, including a “triple crown” on The Show.
“Peppermint Chocolate” - K.will and MAMAMOO feat. Wheesung
Prior to MAMAMOO’s official debut, the girls collaborated with K.Will in 2014 on the track “Peppermint Chocolate.” With more than enough retro vibes and incredible vocal talent to spare, “Peppermint Chocolate” is a good song that will leave you baffled at how the girls of MAMAMOO were mere rookies at the time. Even though the members of the group were young, K.will and Wheesung made use of MAMAMOO’s talents and charisma in this pre-debut track. It’s no wonder they became queens of the retro concept later in their career.
“Daydream” - j-hope
The wait for j-hope’s inevitable mixtape release seemed never-ending, but in 2018, he finally graced fans with the feel-good bop of the year, “Daydream.” Even the most casual listener of BTS knows that j-hope is the king of dance, so his solo mixtape was bound to be groovy; “Daydream” surely doesn’t disappoint on that front.
