fromis_9 is back with their newest mini-album, My Little Society! Spearheaded by their funky fresh new title track “Feel Good (SECRET CODE),” the release marks the first comeback in over a year for the girl group.

“Feel Good (SECRET CODE)” may be one of the most aptly named releases of 2020. If there’s one trend that’s dominated the K-Pop scene as of late, it’s the retro sound. While “Feel Good” doesn’t have a full retro concept, the elements are certainly there. With a funk guitar laced throughout the melody and a groovy, upbeat rhythm that keeps the song moving, “Feel Good” is easy to love at first listen. The impossibly catchy “na-na-na-na-na” chorus is just the cherry on top of fromis_9’s boppin’ sundae.

The next track on the album, “Weather,” is a little more laid back but certainly no less groovy than its predecessor. By comparing their ever-changing selves to the fickleness of weather, the girls of fromis_9 let fans know they’re more than capable of going with the flow. “Starry night” dials it back, with the focus going to the girls’ vocals in this heartfelt song about trying to connect with a lover. “Somebody to love” sounds like your typical feel-good K-Drama OST. There’s a slight acapella touch to it (the backing vocals would make for an incredible true acapella performance), giving the song an even brighter feel. My Little Society ends just as cheerfully as it starts, with the final track “Mulgogi,” the Korean word for “fish.” fromis_9 takes this literally, by comparing unbridled happiness to fish freely swimming in the sea. It’s an unexpected metaphor for sure, but it’s one that more than serves its purpose in this playful closing track.
