Throwback Thursday: Concert DVDs

It’s been almost a year since the last in-person K-Pop concerts—yes, we know that’s a hard pill to swallow. Whether you’re an avid concert-goer or a newer fan who feels like you may never get the chance to see your faves live, we’re all feeling the effects of the past concertless year. The Kraze’s best way to deal? Watch your favorite old tours, of course!

花樣年華 ON STAGE : EPILOGUE - BTS

With their ever-increasing global popularity, BTS’s tours have only grown more grandiose over the years, but few have struck such a sentimental chord as their 2016 花樣年華 EPILOGUE tour. Rounding out their iconic The Most Beautiful Moment in Life trilogy, this Asian tour was truly the end of an era for the group. Along with some of the most memorable ending comments from members like Jimin, the tour also included the explosive first performance of “Fire,” though nothing quite beats the final, moving performance of “Epilogue: Young Forever.”

IDEAL CUT IN SEOUL - SEVENTEEN

Kicking off with four consecutive performances in Seoul, SEVENTEEN’s 2018 IDEAL CUT tour included separate setlists for each day, with the latter three days dedicated to each specific unit of the group. What really made IDEAL CUT special though was the inclusion of solos for all 13 members. Regrettably, these unreleased solos are not included on the DVD, but that does not detract from the spectacle of SEVENTEEN’s performance. Between innovative mixed unit songs and an adorable “Bong Bong” (SEVENTEEN’s self-created mascot) stage of “Thinkin’ About You,” the IDEAL CUT concert is entertaining for hours on-end.

[NEW EVOLUTION] - 2NE1

2NE1’s 2012 [NEW EVOLUTION] tour was a landmark for the group as it not only marked the girls’ first world tour, but also was celebrated as the first world tour for a K-Pop girl group. With intense sets that evoked a theme park and a setlist comprised of solos, duets, and signature straight-fire 2NE1 bops, the concert practically felt like a festival. Overseas, the tour was touted as a monstrous success, with The New York Times even citing the Newark stop as one of the best concerts of 2012.

SHINee WORLD IV - SHINee

As any Shawol knows, SHINee concert DVDs are in a caliber of their own. Though it’s hard to pick a favorite, 2015’s SHINee World IV makes the list for its versatile setlist and memorable stages. From remixes of old songs to Korean versions of Japanese releases, SHINee World IV allowed the boys to experiment with their performances, showing fans even more sides of the beloved group. Between Onew’s tap-dancing, the eccentric “Woof Woof” stage, and the debut of their hit “View,” SHINee World IV has it all.
