Epik High Is Here with “Face ID”
At long last, Epik High is back with another single, coming back with the heat and venom. It comes as no surprise that the veteran and legendary group of 18 years packs a punch as they return with “Face ID” featuring Sik-K, GIRIBOY, and JUSTHIS.
Addressing the haters, keyboard warriors, and the in-between fakes, “Face ID” is all about how everyone has something to say but Epik High just doesn’t care for it anymore. It’s about sending a strong message that despite all of this negativity and toxicity, they’re doing just fine and will keep moving forward. At the end of the day, words are just words and it’s not going to faze them. People can talk all they want, but their levels remain unmatched and stooping down to that level is just a waste of time.
Epik High, Sik-K, GIRIBOY, and JUSTHIS know that people can hide behind their screens but when they finally meet in person, all of a sudden, the attitude and the persona changes. It’s laughable at how now instead of spitting hateful and jealous things, they want to be acknowledged and praised in a good light. Instead of being fake, it’s better to just be real and say it to their face.
“Face ID” is the personification of a big middle finger in song form, and it fits well with Epik High’s style. Epik High keeps it rather simple by using guitar and drums blended with hip-hop beats to create this badass, aggressive, yet addictive and catchy song.
The music video itself is chaotic and filled with various special effects that make it dizzying at times, but is reminiscent of how the mind can twist, bend, and mesh into something that isn’t real. When the delusion and thoughts kick in, there are definite examples of this weird, messed up world that comes to life. It’s a reminder of how the mind can just create an image that isn’t good. Though the music video may seem weird and messy, it’s edgy and artistic, which is right up Epik High’s alley. They are not afraid to be different and offer something that is such a ride, and those who tune in have to just take it for what it is. Perhaps one of the most special highlights from the music video is seeing DJ Tukutz performing choreography to the song.
Fans do not have to wait much longer for the return of Epik High after this single. With the start of their recently-announced North American tour on the horizon and the second installment of their album Epik High is Here in 2022, there is much, much more that Epik High has in store.
