Top K-Dramas of 2021
The end of 2021 is upon us, and now is a perfect time to take a look back and reflect on the K-Dramas we've watched. Check out some of The Kraze's picks for the top K-Dramas of 2021 and decide if you agree or not.
Squid Game
Of course, this had to be the first one mentioned. Squid Game blew everyone out of the water and put K-Dramas on the front page of every major newspaper and magazine. It's graphic, brutal, and made watchers think about what we would do for a chance to win a lot of money, primarily if our lives depended on it. If you're one of the few that hasn't watched it yet, Squid Game is available on Netflix.
Hellbound
Hellbound was even darker than Squid Game, if you can believe it. This drama had us questioning what we think about sins, life after death, and being able to repent. Hellbound is violent, graphic, and brutal to watch at times, but an excellent show to binge if you can handle it. You can watch it on Netflix.
Racket Boys
Racket Boys is a cute slice of life drama about a boys badminton team at a middle school in Haenam. The drama follows the members as they grow together as a team and as individuals. The town cast is adorable, and their backstories draw you in as much as the main characters' stories. If you enjoyed Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, give this drama a try. It's available on Netflix.
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
Arguably the best love story of the year, Hometown Cha- Cha-Cha follows the relationship between a dentist and a handyman as they grow from strangers to friends to something more.
Beyond Evil
Twists and turns are waiting for you in Beyond Evil. Decades after a string of vicious murders, a young woman is killed in the same manner. A small-town cop and his partner do whatever they can to find the culprit, including breaking the law. Fans consider this drama to be one of the top crime dramas of the year, and it's available on Netflix.
Mouse
Another top crime drama of 2021! Not just violent, Mouse shows you what can happen to a person if they felt no love as a child. The isolation and loneliness that it brings in a person's life can be the catalyst for everything that they do in the future. Lee Seunggi and Lee Heejoon were exquisite in their roles. Be prepared for so many twists and turns that your head will spin.
D.P.
D.P. is a fictional story that focuses on military life in South Korea. If soldiers are unpopular within their unit, they are subjected to hazing and unspeakable bullying. Unfortunately, some soldiers choose to run away and become deserters rather than blow the whistle on these crimes. Private Ahn Joonho (Jung Haein) and Corporal Han Hoyul (Koo Kyohwan) are assigned to track down these deserters and return them to their units. Check it out on Netflix.
My Name
My Name is the perfect drama to watch when you want to see a strong female lead that doesn't let anything, or anyone, stand in the way of her goal. Han Sohee was docile in Nevertheless, but in this drama, she's anything but! My Name is on Netflix if you want to watch her kick some serious butt.
Happiness
Happiness did zombies that are not zombies the right way. This thriller drama has minor jump scares, a good love story, and a strong female lead. Add to the fact that it is the first drama back after enlistment for Park Hyungsik, and this show is bound to give anyone watching this happy drama feels.
So Not Worth It
Are you looking for a drama that you don't need to think about too much to enjoy? So Not Worth It is for you! This college drama has many familiar faces like Minnie, Yujin, Han Hyunmin, and Choi Youngjae. It's the perfect combination of romantic comedy and corniness. You can check it out on Netflix.
Hospital Playlist
Before there is an uproar about dates, Hospital Playlist Season Two aired in 2021. It's still a fantastic show that continues right where Season One left off. This drama also gets bonus points for showing positive friendships and having an amazing soundtrack. It's available on Netflix, so check it out.
Nevertheless
Nevertheless is considered a hot take. While it was socially popular with its steamy kiss scenes and handsome male actors (we're looking at you, Song Kang and Chae Jonghyeop), not everyone loved the show's ending. The drama is available on Netflix if you want to rage over Yu Nabi's (Han Sohee) choices.
Navillera
A beautiful story about a 70-year-old man with a dream and a 23-year-old man with a gift. Song Kang is excellent as the aspiring ballet dancer, and Park Inhwan shows that just because you're older doesn't mean you can't learn something new. This drama is an excellent show about family, love, friendship, warmth, sadness, and happiness. Make sure you have tissues nearby when you watch Navillera.
