PURPLE K!SS Captivates Listeners With Their Poisonous Love in “Ponzona”

After two pre-release singles, new girl group PURPLE K!SS has finally made their debut with the release of their EP Into Violet, supported by the title track “Ponzona.” PURPLE K!SS is a seven member girl group under RBW Entertainment. The group consists of Park Jieun, Na Goeun, Dosie, Ireh, Yuki, Chaein, and Swan. Their debut EP consists of eight tracks in total, including previously released songs “My Heart Skip a Beat” and “Can We Talk Again.” All members took part in writing, composing, and choreographing the songs on the album.

“Ponzona” is co-written by members Na Goeun, Swan, and Yuki and is a song about leaving their admirers addicted to their poisonous love. The song’s title is the spanish term for poison and fits into the group’s concept. The song features a piano and violin that help create a dreamy and mysterious aura about the group. The music video for the song features the girls in various aesthetically pleasing sets and gorgeous outfits. The video follows a purple and dark color scheme, complementing the intense choreography of the song. The music video also fits well in the growing interest and revival of darker/horror concepts among girl groups.

Besides the pre-release singles, the album contains four new B-side tracks, ”Intro: Crown,” “Skip Skip,” “Hello,” and “마침표 (Period).” With witty but sincere lyrics and confident delivery, the tracks on the album dive into R&B, hip-hop, trap, rock, and ballad, showcasing a wide variety of sounds throughout the album. The album closes with the ballad “마침표 (Period),” which was co-written and co-composed by all members of the group. Through the song’s lyrics, the girls hope to express the feeling of standing at a crossroad in their life. The first girl group under RBW Entertainment since MAMAMOO debuted in 2014, PURPLE K!SS has been under tremendous pressure to live up to their seniors. But they exceeded expectations with their debut EP and are looking forward to a bright future. Watch the music video for “Ponzona” below!
