STAYC Returns with First Comeback "ASAP"
The girls are back! Five months after their debut, STAYC returns for their first comeback with their second single album STAYDOM, featuring their title track “ASAP.” With a completely different concept in comparison to their debut, this album will make their discography more diverse.
The Title
In the music video, STAYC is in this colorful and bright scenery filled with hearts, video game graphics, and straight-out-of-a-comic perspective. With the inclusion of stickers in their video, it makes it feel like you’re entering a fan-edit music video. Staying consistent with their agency’s “teen-fresh” genre, the girls display their peppy charm with a refreshing choreography. They even created a challenge on TikTok for fans to try it out for themselves! The infectious energy the girls exude in the video will make anyone a fan of STAYC.
“ASAP” is an energizing synth track that involves STAYC’s eagerness to find their ideal type (as soon as possible). In this springtime track, the girls kept their iconic phrase, “STAYC girls, it’s going down,” from their debut single to continue their popular trend. With the song diversifying their musicality, it’s sure to grow with you the more you listen to it. In the chorus, the lyrics “Someone who's the same as me, who knows my heart well” and “Please appear before my eyes” conclude that these girls desire a partner similar to them and can wait no longer. One of the golden moments in this track is the bridge; there’s just something about the track slowing down and hearing an acapella-like verse of the girls’ sweet vocals that makes you fall in love.
The Album
“So What” is a pop song that’s all about living in the moment and forgetting about your worries in life for just a minute. In their lyrics, we see lines like “Sometimes you can take it slow” and “Thinking too much makes my body heavy,” as reminders to enjoy your life and not worry about things too much. Though there’s one part in the song that will leave you smiling from its intent: “Don't worry if you've gained a little weight, weight is just a number.” It’s a beautiful reminder for fans to not worry about this because you can leave it for another day. The promotion of self-love and reassurance is something that everyone should hear in music, especially from a group like STAYC.
“Love Fool,” is an almost ballad-like pop song that talks about holding onto the feeling of love. Even if it’s coming or going, the newfound feeling of love is something you’d want to cherish in your heart. The lyrics “I will leave us shining forever, I’ll hold the never-ending us forever” will unlock your own personal memory of love. Even with a line that asks, “Is love supposed to hurt like this?” will leave you pondering about the same feelings STAYC encounters. A highlight of this song is the bridge because you can hear the girls harmonizing to the line, “The stars are shining in my heart” which is hauntingly beautiful.
To end the album, fans were blessed with a remix by Tak of STAYC’s iconic debut single, “So Bad.” By giving this track the remix treatment, it gives the original song even more texture with its electronic dance music style. It helps end the album on a high note by encouraging fans to continue streaming the original and its remix counterpart.
For their first comeback, STAYC has done an excellent job showcasing an early start in widening their musicality. In just a short time, the girls have released an infectious personality that attracts all fans in the K-Pop community. If you’ve become a new fan after this album, you’re now welcomed into STAYC’s fan club, SWITH.
