Mindset: Getting Real with Fans

As fans, we rarely see a side of our favorite artist that isn’t pre-approved. Every on-camera action is always according to the expectations set by the idols’ company. However, some of our favorite Korean artists are pulling back the curtain, giving fans a chance to get raw, get real, and get a rare glimpse of their “mindset.”

What is Mindset?

Mindset is a place for you to get raw and real with your favorite celebs. Instead of shying away from sensitive topics that cannot normally be discussed, celebrities and artists give us an inside look at how they got through their most troubling moments in life. Topics like suicide, anxiety, depression, panic disorders, and even bullying are all things that are on the table. Mindset is only available as an app found on the two major app stores.

Contents

Currently on Mindset, there are four different artists: Eric Nam, Tablo, DAY6’s Jae, and most recently KARD’s BM. They all have their own sections that include their own communities and collections. Each mindset includes around 150 minutes or more of audio content. Currently, each mindset has 10 episodes and two boosters. While the first episode and first booster are free, to access the second booster and the rest of the episodes (including an intimate game of 21 questions with one artist) is a one-time $24.99 payment. A percentage of the payments goes to a charity of the artists’ choice.

Mindset Collections

Each artist's mindset focuses on topics chosen by them. They all have a trailer that gives listeners an introduction to the artist and the types of topics they will cover. There are content warnings for some of the mindsets because they dive into topics that could be triggering to some listeners. If an episode contains content requiring a warning, a symbol will appear on the episodes so listeners are able to screen their content. Every mindset covers its own topics in each episode, so it's okay to listen to them out of order or even skip episodes entirely.

Boosters

These are five minutes of shorter clips that are meant to give you a boost when you need it most. With titles like “When You’re Feeling Hopeless” and “Raise the Bar,” these boosters are perfect for when you don’t have a ton of time but still want that pep talk from someone who gets what you are going through.

Why I Tried It

I was skeptical due to the price point; $24.99 is a lot to commit to ten episodes of content with no hope of being updated. However, after listening to Tablo’s first episode called “I’m Still Alive,” I wanted to take the plunge. I spent two weeks listening to Tablo’s story and found myself crying and empathizing with many of the things he shared. The most refreshing part of Tablo’s mindset was the transparency when it came to the deep dark thoughts that we don’t often hear from our favorite celebs. For some, paying for the audio may not be worth it, but if you feel like the first episode of your chosen mindset speaks to you, it is worth the plunge to access the rest. I can see myself relistening to some of Tablo’s episodes when I need to hear some words of wisdom from our favorite K-Pop dad.

Final Thoughts

Whether you just listen to the first episode or take the plunge to purchase one or more of the mindsets, it's definitely something worth diving into. The stories these celebrities share help you connect on a deeper level, and to realize that even the most successful people go through it sometimes. Have you listened to any of the Mindset episodes?
