MONSTA X Fashion Through the Years

Boy group MONSTA X has shown huge growth not only in music, but also in their various styles and concepts throughout the years. In honor of MONSTA X’s debut anniversary coming up on May 14, let’s take a look at some of their fashion concepts and growth from debut to today!

2015

“Trespass” and “RUSH”

The concepts for their debut music video “Trespass” and their second video “RUSH” are quite similar. MONSTA X began with a very strong and aggressive look, with dark clothing, matching stark eyeliner, and streetwear looks with lots of layers, including sweaters and basketball shorts over long pants. Their accessories were often snapbacks and long gold chains.

“HERO”

“HERO” was the beginning of a fashion change for MONSTA X. Their outfits included a more fitted and classic look, going for almost a more K-Drama boyfriend style, rather than the more aggressive look seen in their previous concept photos.

2016

“All In”

“All In” and the concept for their album The Clan Pt. 1 ‘LOST’ began a more artistic approach to their fashion and photos. In their various concept photos, they used pink, purple, and blue lighting and each member wore a blazer and pants while retaining their individual unique looks for it.

“Fighter”

The Clan Pt. 2 ‘GUILTY’ continued to expand on their most artistic approach and brought more of a daily chic wear vibe to their outfits with “Fighter.”

2017

“Beautiful”

2017 really showed the versatility of MONSTA X, as “Beautiful” and its concept photos are quite sexy. It also revealed more of MONSTA X’s style of having slightly different—but still coordinating—outfits. The various textures and shades of black for the members' outfits blend perfectly to match each other.

“SHINE FOREVER” and “NEWTON”

Both “SHINE FOREVER” and “NEWTON” were quite different from “Beautiful.” The concepts for these went for a cuter boyfriend look for the members. It was also the first chance we’d gotten to see MONSTA X in brighter colors, and with a less serious concept for “NEWTON.”

“DRAMARAMA”

The concept photos for album THE CODE brought a chilly outside boyfriend concept for MONSTA X, with each member in outfits that spoke well for their own personal fashion tastes. Additionally, the video for “DRAMARAMA” maintained their use of coordinated outfits, this time in red and black.

2018

“Jealousy” and “Shoot Out”

“Jealousy” and “Shoot Out” continued MONSTA X’s trend of coordinating outfits and their love of black and white, which contrasted well with the brightness of the members’ various hair colors.

2019

“Alligator”

The album Take.2 We Are Here combined an artistic take on the coordinating outfits, particularly for their photos in all-white, as each member had intricate details on their outfits—from frilled collars with dangling accessories and the distinct hats seen on I.M and former member Wonho. The video for “Alligator” was a sexier concept, and used bold prints and patterns for each of the members' outfit.

“Find you” and “Follow”

The album FOLLOW - FIND YOU showed us a retro-inspired style for MONSTA X, with colorful print blouses as well as oversized and velvet blazers.

2020

“Fantasia”

FANTASIA X gave us a different color palette consisting of warm colors in various shades, ranging from white to browns and golds that we don’t typically see from MONSTA X.

“Love Killa”

“Love Killa” really brought back a classic-yet-sexy styled suit with a versatile look for each member.

Looking back from their debut and onward, you can really see how MONSTA X changed into the group that they are today. For every comeback they have been able to flawlessly coordinate their various outfits while sticking to their individual styles, and it makes one look forward to what we will see from them next!
