Rocket Punch Goes Retro with “Ring Ring”

The 1980s seem to be a popular decade to call back to these days in K-Pop, and girl group Rocket Punch has hopped on the trend! It’s been nine months since we’ve had a release from the group, whose last return took place in August 2020. Jumping from the classic summer cutesy concept in “Juicy,” the girls are back with a fresh new look and catchy title in “Ring Ring.”

The title has an obvious classic ‘80s feel from the first beat, with the heavy synth driving the rhythm from start to finish. If you don’t like 1980s pop music, this track probably isn’t for you. The retro feel is quite fun, and while there are more modern musical elements woven into the melody, it remains authentic to its roots. The song definitely gives off high-energy vibes, even through the rap verses, which makes it a great track for the summer months.

The general theme of the music video also has a strong retro feel, taking place at a colorful gas station and a retro cafe. Vibrant colors take the main stage, with pinks, yellows, and blues shining in the background of each member’s shot and group dances. The outfits are all unique to each member and bring a different feeling to the overall picture while still having a cohesive feel, even with different color patterns on different members. Visually, this video is a fun and stimulating experience overall, with the bright color and demeanor of the members guaranteeing a smile on your face.
