Highlight Returns After Three Years of Hiatus with New Album

It's definitely not the end of the road for Highlight. The group, also known to many fans as BEAST, has returned after a three year hiatus with a new mini-album. Starting their mandatory military enlistment one by one in 2018, the group is finally back together as a whole. The group released their third mini album, The Blowing, supported by very appropriately titled lead single, “불어온다 (NOT THE END).”

The new song is an instant classic with an addicting EDM drop, but the lyricism in the track shines the brightest. The members of the group express their feelings about waking up from a long winter and stepping into spring, declaring that they are still here and will continue to thrive because this is “not the end” for them. The lyrics are inspired by the group’s career which has been quite tumultuous since their debut back in 2009. The music video is as aesthetically pleasing as the song itself. Filled with bright colors, flowers, and smooth choreography performed by Highlight, the music video perfectly encapsulates the song’s message.

Standout tracks among the B-sides are “WAVE,” a pop track with beautiful vocal harmonies and lyrics that talk about how loneliness and sadness hits us in waves, and the sophisticated R&B track “Disconnected,” which has a star-studded cast of songwriters behind it. The song was co-written by VINCENZO, Any Masingga, and Fuxxy, who worked with Chungha on her track “Play”; Charlotte Wilson, who is credited on ITZY’s “Not Shy”; and Jacob Aaron, who worked with Charlotte Wilson on Kang Daniel’s “Runaway.”

The Blowing marks a triumphant return for Highlight. With more and more second generation groups like SHINee, 2PM, Highlight, and more coming back to music, fans are sure to feel nostalgic and excited in 2021.
