Best of May 2021
We are nearing the end of spring and stepping into summer, so as expected May’s releases have mixed spring’s sincerity with summer’s freshness. Let’s look at some of the best B-sides that were released this month!
“Polarity” by ONEUS
ONEUS throws it back to high school chemistry on “Polarity” as they compare a love story to oil and water and how the substances with different polarities don’t mix well. With a groovy guitar and witty lyrics, the song is an amazing R&B jam that belongs in your playlist. Click here to check out our review of ONEUS’s latest album BINARY CODE.
“If I could tell you” by TAEMIN ft. Taeyeon
As a parting gift for his fans, TAEMIN released his album Advice. On the album, he collaborates with labemate Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation on B-side “If I could tell you.” The two singers deliver soft vocals on this dreamy piano-assisted track. With beautiful harmonies, the song is like a fresh breeze that’ll cool you down on a hot summer day. Check out what The Kraze had to say about Advice here.
“Please Please” by EVERGLOW
This retro-pop ballad is an impressive display of EVERGLOW’s (underrated) vocals. The lyrics are emotional and convey a message to their future selves as they beg themselves to never let go of hope. With a key change towards the end of the song, the song becomes grander and is reminiscent of vocal performances by groups like MAMAMOO. “Rainbow (책갈피)” by NCT Dream
Co-written by members Mark, Jeno, Jaemin, and Jisung, this R&B ballad is a very special song on NCT Dream’s first full-length album. As Genius mentions, the song is a continuation of Dream’s 2018 track “Dear DREAM.” The song’s Korean title translates to “bookmark” and is a reference to how their journey as 7Dream was paused after their album We Go Up, but continues with Hot Sauce. “Swan” by Oh My Girl
Produced by hitmaker Cutfather, “Swan” is a dreamy track that closes Oh My Girl’s latest album Dear OHMYGIRL. The song features exciting rock beats and an addictive EDM drop, making it a perfect summer party song. Just like Oh My Girl’s other animal themed B-side hit “Dolphin,” the new song also has incredible potential to be a follow-up for “Dun Dun Dance.” Read our coverage of the comeback here.
“SCUM” by D.Ark ft. Moon Sujin
P NATION’s rising rap star D.Ark released his debut mini-album GENIUS earlier this month. Sharing the story of how he uses his on-stage persona to stand up against the judgments of society, “SCUM” is a melodic rap song. The rapper collaborates with rising R&B star Moon Sujin, who recently grew to popularity after collaborating with EXO-SC and Taeil of NCT.
