MIRAE Makes a “Splash” in First Comeback

DSP Media’s boy group MIRAE has made their first official comeback since their debut back in March. With a successful debut standing at 15 million views on YouTube, what could the boy group have in store for their first comeback to continue the impressive streak?

Well, it definitely is something totally different. While debut track “KILLA” was a dance-influenced EDM track, latest comeback “Splash” goes a completely different route with a much more heavy hip-hop influence. While the base of the track has a strong hip-hop feel, there are hints of pop and EDM elements in the pre-chorus. Anyone who is a fan of harder music will like this track as the melody is rather infectious, making it difficult to deny the need to move along to the beat as the song progresses. It’s nice to hear a differing sound, and the ability to release something completely different helps to showcase the group’s talent overall.

The teaser photos for the release were somewhat misleading, at least in the sense of the use of color—or maybe that is just me. The teaser photos showed a ton of color, especially on the album covers, which tends to point toward a more upbeat type of sound. But if you look closer, the color is meant to appear like graffiti art, which gives off a more punk or even hip-hop type of vibe. That bold coloring is much more sparse in the video itself, with fashion that focuses on punk elements centered in black and white. The visual elements as well as the choreography give off more of a rebellious vibe and overall add to the intensity of the track itself. It’s a refreshing change from the futuristic concept they debuted with, and they pull the new look off flawlessly.

Even if you haven’t heard much about MIRAE in the past, it’s hard to ignore the strength of their first comeback. Be sure to check out the video for “Splash” below, and the rest of the album as well!
