LUMINOUS Debuts with the Mysterious “RUN”

A new boy group is on the scene! Four-member boy group LUMINOUS debuted September 9 with mini-album YOUTH. The group had been previously slated to debut back in 2019, but due to a falling out with the previous company the debut was cancelled. Despite that, LUMINOUS is finally here under Barunson WIP. Though they had previously released a pre-debut album, this official debut features full-group songs rather than solos highlighted in VISION.

Title track “RUN” is a classic pop and hip-hop-infused track with an infectious beat, the type of track designed to draw attention from the first beat. The song itself has many popular elements, from the hip-hop-focused beat to the catchy synth melody used to drive the beat. If you like the lighter, acoustic type of influence in a song, this probably won’t be your cup of tea. But if you’re a fan of the harder debut concepts, this will definitely fit your tastes. The song is no doubt catchy, and the vocals are up to par, with the high-note emphasis about two-thirds of the way through the song definitely raising eyebrows in surprise.

The music video is quite the cinematic experience, with the opening shot showing an empty living location before shifting to an old-time radio being turned on. It’s easy to think this is going to be the song itself, a smoother slow-tempo ballad, but as another radio is turned off the tone shifts to the true melody of “RUN.” Light and shadow is used in a very deliberate way in this video, with a lot of darkness used to drive home the darker concept while the light highlights the members in their individual shots. The choreography is sharp and well-performed, with backup dancers added to help drive further impact. Coming from a small company, this video is shot very well.
