K-Pop Stars Hop On The Soundtrack to Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

The hottest sensation this fall is Marvel StudiosShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings starring rising Chinese-Canadian star Simu Liu as the titular character. The movie is accompanied by a soundtrack album with songs from and inspired by the feature film produced by 88rising. The album features several rising and established Asian artists, including some of our favorite Korean stars like the DPR team, Mark Tuan of GOT7, BIBI, Seori, and Zion.T. Let’s take a look at some of these songs.

“Diamonds + And Pearls” is performed by 2021’s breakout star DPR Ian also known as Christian Yu. A former C-Clown member, Yu grew to popularity this year with the release of his album, Moodswings in This Order. DPR Ian is joined by teammate DPR Live, one of the most prominent faces in the K-Hip-Hop scene. “Diamonds + And Pearls” opens with a choir-assisted intro before moving into a gritty auto-tuned verse that is supported by a rock-influenced chorus and drop. The track’s grunge production not only showcases DPR’s signature style but also matches the movie’s vibe.

South Korean R&B artist Zion.T collaborated with Japanese singer Gen Hoshino on the city-pop-inspired song “Nomad,” with lyrics that accurately describe Shang Chi’s character. The song was co-written by KUSH and Danny Chung from THEBLACKLABEL, a team that has produced some of the biggest K-Pop songs.

Mark Tuan of GOT7, who recently established his own studio in Beijing, China, hops on the soundtrack with a duet with K-R&B’s hottest rookie, BIBI. Their song “Never Gonna Come Down” is a pop song providing a nice change of pace on the soundtrack. Both Mark and BIBI opt for softer tones as the song’s lyrics talk about love and infatuation. The track also marks the first OST released by Mark.

The last appearance by a K-Pop artist comes from singer-songwriter Seori on the song “Warriors.” A power anthem, “Warriors” is the closing track on the album and is performed by Indonesian rapper Warren Hue alongside Seori. Seori lends her haunting vocals on the track’s powerful hook and the bridge following an interesting switch in beat and melody.

Jackson Wang of GOT7 was also supposed to be included in the album with his untitled track that was featured in the movie’s teaser. However, the song was ultimately removed from the final cut for unknown reasons. The album also features other Asian artists like JJ Lin, Audrey Nuna, NIKI, and Rich Brian, justto name a few. With the widespread popularity of Shang-Chi as the first Marvel superhero movie with an Asian-North American lead character, the movie’s soundtrack album is also bound to gain popularity, which could potentially catapult our beloved Korean stars on the album to global popularity as well. Check out the soundtrack on all streaming platforms like Spotify, and catch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in theaters now!
