5 Underrated Girl Group Tracks To Listen To
One of the greatest things about K-Pop is how easy it is to discover a plethora of artists that go under the radar. At times, these groups have hidden gems that don't get the recognition they deserve — especially if they are fresh off their debut. Obviously, because there are tons of songs, it can be difficult to listen to every new artist possible found online. But for today's Ladies Corner, I’ll be highlighting five underrated tracks by girl groups that caught my attention and deserve some love. It's only fair that we check out their music to see what we've been missing from the newer generation of K-Pop idols.
“Draw (MY TIME)” by ICHILLIN'
Oftentimes, I think we as K-Pop fans forget that it's okay to release laidback and fun songs. It's okay to branch out with edgy or chic concepts every now and then, but there's a good percentage of us that find joy in the bubbly anthems. "Draw (MY TIME)" by ICHILLIN' happens to be one of those charming singles. It's light, refreshing, and peaceful to enjoy from the comfort of your bedroom. After recently adding Jeong Jiyoon — previously a contestant on Girls Planet 999 — to the lineup, ICHILLIN' has an artistic glow to them that has so much potential. I think what makes this song great is the freeing music video that reminds you of the little things that made you happy in your youth. Never take it for granted.
“DANCE ON” by ALICE
Previously known as ELRIS and newly re-debuted under the name ALICE, I'm honestly surprised I didn't discover this song earlier. "DANCE ON" has a groovy soundscape and visual that makes you wish you could walk right into the video. From the sporty introduction at the tennis courts to a personal party, there's a lot of ALICE to go around. This is the group's second chance to make it big, so please give them a listen as you may encounter gold.
“BYE BYE” by IRRIS
There's something about IRRIS that I have never seen before with other girl groups. According to their comments on their videos, the group took a non-traditional route by releasing three music videos as a trilogy. Beginning with their song "Wanna Know," following up with "Stay With Me," and completing the trilogy with "Bye Bye," it's a story to start if you want to understand IRRIS better. "Bye Bye" stood out to me with such an evocative and emotionally nostalgic atmosphere that will have you shed a tear. You don't even need to look up the lyrics to feel emotionally driven by this trac; you can sense it right away. This track begs us to dive into their trilogy and look forward to (hopefully) more in the future.
“Eye To Eye” by LIMELIGHT
Both the song and music video took my breath away; there's an extremely high potential for LIMELIGHT. Their song "Eye To Eye" is actually one of their pre-debut tracks — so even before their official debut, they're making a name for themselves. This song alone leaves me anticipating their debut title track. Their auras present a familiar warmth similar to that of home: peaceful and welcoming. I'd love to see what 2023 brings for them.
“Rose” by mimiirose
Wow, right off the bat, mimiirose has tons of charisma and radiant colors. "Rose" has a driving ambiance that reminds of second generation girl groups. I'm thoroughly shocked that not many people have spoken about the group, especially with such an energetic song. Unfortunately, it seems the group has had a rocky start to their debut. Fans have expressed with comments on their music video that despite the tumultuous road, mimiirose is still doing well and should be recognized as a memorable debut of 2022. After watching this video, they definitely are great contenders and deserve their flowers.
