Throwback Thursday: A Few Collabs and Features
Whether these are your personal faves or a handful of new discoveries, feel free to enjoy this week’s selection of some fun K-Pop collaborations and features.
“And July” - HEIZE (Feat. DEAN, DJ Friz)
It’s hard to argue that 2016 wasn’t a great year for K-Pop releases, with HEIZE and DEAN collaborations being a reality and not just a distant dream for the future. We were blessed with not one, but two collaborations between the two artists; “And July” was the Mr. & Mrs. Smith style release depicting the bittersweet and razor-sharp (fictional) relationship between the two. Alongside HEIZE’s vocals, we are treated to her equally impressive rapping performed in tandem with DEAN.
“보라색 (Purple)” - SOHLHEE (Feat. Taeil of NCT)
SOHLHEE, a soloist signed to SM Entertainment’s sub-label All I Know Music, made her debut in March 2019 with this track featuring the powerhouse vocalist and eldest of NCT, Moon Taeil. For a debut track, this was a gentle introduction to the R&B and hip-hop sound consistent through the rest of SOHLEE’s discography. Taeil, whose vocals can elevate the quality of every track he’s on, fits incredibly well into the sound crafted here. The chorus, “You are my Purple” is also catchy to an addictive degree.
“Try Again” - d.ear X Jaehyun (of NCT)
While the initial reception of this beautiful SM STATION ballad may have been relatively subdued, it’s definitely receiving its flowers these days after going viral on apps such as TikTok. The visuals for this track are just as elegant and soothing as its sounds, delivering the lovely sight of Jaehyun adorned in orange blush and faux freckles. Aside from the visuals, the mixture of these two artists for this track evokes chills with their beautiful harmonies.
“Heart Stop” - TAEMIN (Feat. Seulgi)
We are three for three with SM Entertainment artists for this week's list, but it’s undeniable that the collaborations and duets that emerge from the company are excellent. This collab between TAEMIN and Seulgi was a well-anticipated match made in heaven for these two artists that are stylistically parallel to one another.
