“DAYDREAM”

As the title track of the album, “DAYDREAM” blurs the lines between dreams and reality. In reality, the Highlight members express how they are lonely and walking a desolate path without the person they love. It’s a cold and bleak road to walk, but when they enter their dreams, it’s where they can find warmth, solace, and love. Their dreams are the last shred of hope and love as they remember their former lover; they don’t want to leave because when reality hits back, they revert to longing for them. Highlight recognizes that they are lost without their lover but their dreams are hopeful that they may be able to reunite and be whole once again. By choosing to continue to dream (even if awake), they reject reality for what it is and would rather feel whole through their dreams.

“DAYDREAM” is a pop-R&B ballad that has hints of horns and classical instruments that give it that refreshing sound. Even though the meaning of the song is rather sad, there is that hopeful upbeat feel to it that makes listeners want to feel the rush of emotions and be positive with them. The music video does well in showcasing their “reality” of being in empty and desolate places such as dark rooms and deserts. However, if you pay close attention, there are moments where items like a radio or water shift and blur to signify when they are in their dreams.

Overall, Highlight kicks off spring with a solid album that offers a little bit of everything. As a second generation group, DAYDREAM proves that this group shows no signs of slowing down and are growing along with their music.
