Here Comes TEMPEST and Their “Bad News”

One of the most anticipated debuts of 2022 has finally arrived. Yuehua Entertainment's new boy group TEMPEST released their debut mini-album It's ME, It's WE, led by title track "Bad News," and we are here to deliver the good news that this release is a great one.

So, who exactly is TEMPEST, you ask? TEMPEST consists of seven members; LEW, Hanbin, Hyeongseop, Hyuk, Eunchan, Hwarang, and Taerae. Produce 101, I-LAND, and Under Nineteen fans may recognize LEW, Hanbin, Hyeongseop, and Hwarang, as they were contestants on these shows. Members LEW and Hyeongseop also previously debuted in the duo Hyeongseop X Euiwoong back in 2017. With an arsenal of fans already awaiting their debut, TEMPEST released several dance cover videos to build excitement around their debut; their dance cover of NCT 127's hit "Kick It" has almost 1.5 million views at the time of this article.

When it comes to their music, TEMPEST has made a good first impression. Their lead track, "Bad News," is a well-rounded pop song with a funky beat, making it an excellent introduction to the style of music that we can expect from TEMPEST. "Bad News" gives us the perfect balance of solid vocals and hyped-up rap verses. That, combined with a bright and playful music video, choreography that is enjoyable to watch, and a chorus that you find yourself singing along with after just one listen, makes "Bad News" a welcomed earworm.

The rest of the album follows this pop sound to a tee. The pop-synth sounds we hear in all of the songs do not overshadow the vocals or raps of the members and give us the chance to listen to their vocal abilities fully. "Just A Little Bit" is like listening to a dream thanks to its whimsical synth beats and the soft voices of the members. We're led back into a bit of funk with "Find Me," then the album once again transitions into a more heartfelt pop sound with "Next to YOU." The closer for the album, "Bad At Love," is a fun listen that highlights the well-roundedness of the debut.

It’s ME, It’s WE is pop heaven, and TEMPEST has succeeded at producing a debut album that is enjoyable to listen to and showcases the talents of its members wonderfully. The future is bright for these seven idols, and we’re excited to see what it holds for them.
